Since T is the midpoint of PQ, this means that PT and TQ must be equal to each other. Make them equal to each other in an equation.

PT = TQ

4x + 2 = 7x - 7

  • Subtract 2 from both sides.

4x = 7x - 9

  • Subtract 7x from both sides.

-3x = -9

  • Divide both sides by -3.

<u>x = 3</u>

  • Now substitute 3 for x into PT.

PT = 4(3) + 2

  • PT = 12 + 2

The ratio of mammals to birds at the zoo is 96 to 84. Choose ALL ratios that are equivalent:
MariettaO [177]

The equivalent ratios of mammals to birds at the zoo are;

1) 32 to 28

3) 24 to 21

We are given the ratio of mammals to birds at the zoo as; 96 : 84

<h3>Equivalent Ratios</h3>

To get the possible equivalent ratios, we need to first of all list out all the factors of 96 and 84.

  • Factors of 96: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32, 48, 96
  • Factors of 84: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 14, 21, 28, 42, 84.

Now, from the factors listed above, if we divide both 96 and 84 by 3, we will arrive at a ratio of;

32:28

Likewise,if we divide both by 4 we will get;

24:21

In conclusion, the only equivalent ratios are 32:28 and 24:21.

See below for the description of changes when the dependent and the independent variables are switched

<h3>How to determine the changes?</h3>

<u>The table of values</u>

When the dependent and the independent variables are switched, the values also become switched on the table.

This means that the table becomes an inverse table of the function

<u>The scatter plot</u>

Switching the variables implies that the original function is being reflected across the line y = x

<u>The description in words</u>

This description is an inverse relation of the original function

<u>The equation</u>

This description is an inverse equation of the original function.

If the initial equation is y = ax + c, the new equation becomes x = ay + c
