Since both of the equations are equal to y...set them equal to each other.. So it will then be

x^2+3=x+5
      -3     -3
x^2=x+2    ---> x^2-x-2
                       (x-2) (x+1)
                        x=2,-1

Now, Total student were 50 and 25 picked dinner the rest picked lunch and breakfast i.e. 25.

So, x+y=25

Therefore, the system of linear equations are y=5+x and  x+y=25
