The styloid process or styloid process originates from the tympanic portion of the temporal bone, its abnormal growth or ossification of the stylohyoid ligament causes pain stimulated by the sensory cranial nerves. Some of these symptoms, along with the elongated styloid process, are known as Eagle syndrome. The diagnosis is clinical and radiological, with computed tomography.
