A group of seven adults went to the movies. The total cost of the movie tickets was $30. This doesn't seem possible, does it? Af

ter all, 30 is not evenly divisible by 7. Ah, but there's a hitch. The reason that $30 was the total cost was that some members of the group were senior citizens, so they got to see the movie at half price. How many of the group were senior citizens, and how much did the tickets cost?

Answer:

no. of senior citizens=x

no.of other people=7-x

cost=30=k(7-x)+(k/2)x. k is the cost of a ticket

k(7-x+x/2)

k(7-x/2)-30=0

k=60/(14-x)

now do trial and error substitution for (x<7) until u get a whole number for k also (k<30). if you have the skills you can suggest the number yourself

ie x= 2, k=5$

You are buying lawn seed for the the football field a 10 pound bag of lawn seed covers 2000 square feet.
Masja [62]

A football field is 120 yards long (100 yards playing field plus 2 end zones 10 yards each) by 53 1/3 yards wide.

1 yard = 3 feet.

120 yards x 3 feet per yard = 360 feet

53 1/3 yards x 3 = 160 feet.

The area of the football fields is 360 x 160 = 57,600 square feet.

1 bag covers 2000 square feet:

57,600 / 2,000 = 28.8 bags, round up to 29 bags are needed.

1 bag cost $27.79.

29 bags x $27.79 = $805.91 total cost.

Suppose the speeds of vehicles traveling on a highway are normally distributed and have a known population standard deviation of
erik [133]

Answer:

2.88

Step-by-step explanation:

Data provided in the question

\sigma = Population standard deviation = 7 miles per hour

Random sample = n = 32 vehicles

Sample mean = \bar X = 64 miles per hour

98% confidence level

Now based on the above information, the alpha is

= 1 - confidence level

= 1 - 0.98

= 0.02

For \alpha_1_2 = 0.01

Z \alpha_1_2 = 2.326

Now the margin of error is

= Z \alpha_1_2 \times \frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}

= 2.326 \times \frac{7}{\sqrt{32}}

= 2.88

hence, the margin of error is 2.88

Solve the system by substitution 3x+y=-16 and y=-x-4
kap26 [50]

Solution,

y = -x-4......(i)

3x + y =- 16.......(ii)

Now,

Substituting the value of y in equation (ii)

or, 3x + (-x-4)= -16

or,3x - x - 4 = -16

or, 2x= -16 +4

or, x = -12/2

: x = -6

Then,

Substituting the value of x in (i) equation;

or,y= -(-6) - 4

or,y= 6 - 4

: y =2
