Please Help! Factors affecting the rate of Photosynthesis.
PtichkaEL [24]

Factors affecting photosynthesis

Three factors can limit the rate of photosynthesis: light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration and temperature.

Light intensity

Without enough light, a plant cannot photosynthesise very quickly - even if there is plenty of water and carbon dioxide. Increasing the light intensity will boost the rate of photosynthesis.

A graph with rate of photosynthesis on the y axis and light intensity on the x axis. The plotted line rises steeply and then levels off to horizontal.

Carbon dioxide concentration

Even if there is plenty of light, a plant cannot photosynthesise if there is insufficient carbon dioxide.

A graph with rate of photosynthesis on the y axis and light intensity on the x axis. The plotted line rise steeply and then levels off to horizonal. During the steep part light is the limiting factor. During the horizontal part another factor has become limiting.

TemperatureIf it gets too cold, the rate of photosynthesis will decrease. Plants cannot photosynthesise if it gets too hot.

A graph with rate of photosynthesis on the y axis and carbon dioxide concentration on the x axis. The plotted line rise steeply and then levels off to horizonal. During the steep part carobn dioxide is the limiting factor. During the horizontal part another factor has become limiting.

If you plot the rate of photosynthesis against the levels of these three limiting factors, you get graphs like the ones shown above.

In practice, any one of these factors could limit the rate of photosynthesis.

The cost-benefit analysis done to investigate a proposed mine site would take into consideration the cost of environmental restoration after mining and the value of the ore to be extracted from the mine.

Cost-benefit analysis

This is an analysis done to assess the cost and benefits of actions.

For an action to be profitable, the benefits must be more than the cost.

In this case, for a mine site, the value of the ore to be extracted from the mine has to be more than the cost of having to restore the site after mining.

Every other cost can also come in but the two major ones are those highlighted.

The physical expression of genes
spin [16.1K]

The physical expression of genes are phenotype. Phenotype is the expression of the gene by the appearnace of the organism. It is the characteristics of that trait.

Examples : When pigment is made in our eyes, height ( tall and short) , weight, blond hair is the phenotype for the blond hair genotype and skin colour( black, white ) is the phenotype trait.

In three to five sentences, describe the advantages and disadvantages of these maps in modeling mitosis.
Nina [5.8K]

Modelling refers to using a diagrammatic representation to present a particular event or biological activity.

The two maps shown are very good for representing/modelling mitosis.

Advantages

 • They clearly lists the various steps involved in mitosis and as well included the process of cell division starting from the interphase stage (for the second diagram).
 • The M phase was also clearly explained in the first diagram.

Disadvantages

 • The first pictorial diagram had to labelling to depict the name of each particular phase and makes understanding difficult.
 • The second diagram fails to show pictorial representation of what could have exactly happened in each stage in the process of cell division.
