Answer:

Probability that the pointer will stop on an odd number or a number greater than 5 is 0.75.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that it is equally probable that the pointer on the spinner shown will land on any one of eight regions, numbered 1 through 8.

And we have to find the probability that the pointer will stop on an odd number or a number greater than 5.

Let the Probability that pointer will stop on an odd number = P(A)

Probability that pointer will stop on a number greater than 5 = P(B)

Probability that pointer will stop on an odd number and on a number greater than 5 = P(A\bigcap B)

Probability that pointer will stop on an odd number or on a number greater than 5 = P(A\bigcup B)

Here, Odd numbers = {1, 3, 5, 7} = 4

Numbers greater than 5 = {6, 7, 8} = 3

Also, Number which is odd and also greater than 5 = {7} = 1

Total numbers = 8

Now, Probability that pointer will stop on an odd number = \frac{4}{8} = 0.5

Probability that pointer will stop on a number greater than 5 = \frac{3}{8} = 0.375

Probability that pointer will stop on an odd number and on a number greater than 5 = \frac{1}{8} = 0.125

Now, P(A\bigcup B) = P(A) +P(B) -P(A\bigcap B)

                            = 0.5 + 0.375 - 0.125

                            = 0.75

Hence, probability that the pointer will stop on an odd number or a number greater than 5 is 0.75.

zhannawk [14.2K]

The probability that the Yankees will lose when they score fewer than 5 runs is 17.16%.

Probability

Given that this season, the probability that the Yankees will win a game is 0.61 and the probability that the Yankees will score 5 or more runs in a game is 0.56, and the probability that the Yankees win and score 5 or more runs is 0.44, to determine what is the probability that the Yankees will lose when they score fewer than 5 runs the following calculation must be made:

  • 1 - 0.61 = 0.39
  • 1 - 0.56 = 0.44
  • 0.39 x 0.44 = X
  • 0.1716 = X

Therefore, the probability that the Yankees will lose when they score fewer than 5 runs is 17.16%.

The frequency table shows a set of data collected by a doctor for adult patients who were diagnosed with a strain of influenza.
Alexxx [7]

Answer:

The answer would be the second plot

Step-by-step explanation:

The frequency table show how many sick patients there are in a single age range. In the first two plots, the total dots between numbers 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29 add up to 3, and the other 2 plots do not, so those are not correct.

When we add up the total of dots from ages 30-34 on the first plot, there are only 4 sick patients. On the second graph, there are 6 total patients in that age range. Therefore, the dot plot that corresponds with the frequency table is the second one.
