As an example I will finish this problem statement for you:

"<span>A car traveled at an average speed of 80 miles per hour for 3 hours and consumes fuel at a rate of 34 miles per gallon.  How many gallons of fuel will the car use on this trip?

Distance traveled is (80 mph)(3 hrs) = 240 miles.

How many gallons of gas did the car consume?

240 miles        1 gallon
-------------- * -------------- =  7.06 gallons (approx)
        1            34 miles</span>

Help please, detailed explanation would be nice too if possible
polet [3.4K]

Answer:

  b)  1

Step-by-step explanation:

The average rate of change on an interval is given by the rise on the interval divided by the run (the width of the interval). Here, the end points are ...

  (5, -3) and (8, 0)

The rise is 0-(-3) = 3. The run is 8 -5 = 3. The ratio of rise to run is 3/3 = 1.

The average rate of change on [5, 8] is 1.
