The vertex is at the point (0,0) and the focus at the point (0, 1/8). This is given to us. Both the vertex and focus are separated by a vertical distance in the positive direction.

This means that the parabola opens upward. The vertex form of the equation for a parabola that opens upward is:

y = a(x - h)^2 + k, where the point

(h, k) is the vertex of the parabola.

Plug the vertex given into the above equation.

y = a(x - 0)^2 + 0

y = ax^2 + 0

y = ax^2

What is a?

Note: a = 1/(4f), where f is the distance from the vertex to the focus or simply as given in the focus point above 1/8.

Let f = 1/8

a = 1/4(1/8)

a = 1/(1/2)

a = 2

The equation we want is

y = 2x^2.

f(x) = 2x^2

Choice A is the answer.

A 20 foot ladder leaning against a wall is used to reach a window that is 17 feet above the ground. How far from the wall is the
GarryVolchara [31]

The bottom of the ladder is 10.5 feet away from the wall

Step-by-step explanation:

The given scenario forms a right triangle.

Where

The length of ladder will be the hypotenuse

The wall on which the window is situated will ebt he perpendicular and

The distance between the foot of ladder and the wall will be the base

So,

Hypotenuse = H = 20 foot

Perpendicular = P = 17 feet

Base = B = ?

Using the Pythagoras theorem

H^2=P^2+B^2\\(20)^2=(17)^2+B^2\\400=289+B^2\\400-289=B^2\\B^2=111\\Taking\ square\ root\ on\ both\ sides\\\sqrt{B^2}=\sqrt{111}\\B=10.53\\Rounding\ off\ to\ the\ nearest\ tenth\\B=10.5

The bottom of the ladder is 10.5 feet away from the wall

!!please help!!<br>I have an F in this class and really need to get it up!
lisov135 [29]

I may be wrong, I think I remember how to do this. A straight line has an angle of 180, so y would be 133, making the area 55571.63u. (u = whatever unit is measuring the circle.) If x = 1/20 of the area, then the red area = 2,778.5u or 2,779u. I hope this helps, but I honestly don't remember how I would find x, and I don't want you to get the question wrong.

Jenny goes to the shop she buys
zhannawk [14.2K]

Answer:

5

Step-by-step explanation:

1.24 times 3 = 3.72

.95 (the value of pence to a pound in decimal form) = 2.85

6.18 for the teapot

2.72+2.85+6.18=11.75

She now has £8.25 left (20-11.75).

8.25/1.57=the amount of plates she can buy: 5.25477707006, so 5 with some money left
