Assume a simple random sample of 10 BMIs with a standard deviation of 1.186 is selected from a normally distributed population o

f recent Miss America winners. Use 0.01 significance level to test the claim that the BMI for recent Miss America winners are from a population with standard deviation of 1.34.
A. Identify the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis.
B. Find the critical value or values.
C. Find the test statistic.

Answer:

a) H0: \sigma = 1.34

H1: \sigma \neq 1.34

b) df = n-1= 10-1=9

And the critical values with \alpha/2=0.005 on each tail are:

\chi_{\alpha/2}= 1.735, \chi_{1-\alpha/2}= 23.589

c) t=(10-1) [\frac{1.186}{1.34}]^2 =7.05

d) For this case since the critical value is not higher or lower than the critical values we have enough evidence to FAIL to reject the null hypothesis and we can conclude that the true deviation is not significantly different from 1.34

Step-by-step explanation:

Information provided

n = 10 sample size

s= 1.186 the sample deviation

\sigma_o =1.34 the value that we want to test

p_v represent the p value for the test

t represent the statistic  (chi square test)

\alpha=0.01 significance level

Part a

On this case we want to test if the true deviation is 1,34 or no, so the system of hypothesis are:

H0: \sigma = 1.34

H1: \sigma \neq 1.34

The statistic is given by:

t=(n-1) [\frac{s}{\sigma_o}]^2

Part b

The degrees of freedom are given by:

df = n-1= 10-1=9

And the critical values with \alpha/2=0.005 on each tail are:

\chi_{\alpha/2}= 1.735, \chi_{1-\alpha/2}= 23.589

Part c

Replacing the info we got:

t=(10-1) [\frac{1.186}{1.34}]^2 =7.05

Part d

For this case since the critical value is not higher or lower than the critical values we have enough evidence to FAIL to reject the null hypothesis and we can conclude that the true deviation is not significantly different from 1.34

What's the volume of a pipe that's 4 feet in diameter and 24 feet long? (Use π = 3.1416.)
Karolina [17]

Answer:

301.5936 cubic ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Formula for the volume of a cylinder is V = pi*r*r*h, where r represents the radius and h represents the height of the cylinder. Since radius is half the length of diameter, the pipe has a radius of 4/2 = 2 ft.

V = pi*r*r*h = 3.1416*2*2*24 = 301.5936 cubic ft

QveST [7]

KE = 0 (because velocity is 0)

PE = mgh = 2kg*9.8m/s^2*40m= 784 joule

<u>Explanation:</u>

KE stands for kinetic energy. In physics, the kinetic energy of an object is the energy that it possesses due to its motion. It is defined as the work needed to accelerate a body of a given mass from rest to its stated velocity.

Having gained this energy during its acceleration, the body maintains this kinetic energy unless its speed changes. Since in this case, the building is still and therefore it does not have any kind of kinetic energy because there is not acceleration.

The length of a rectangle is represented by L. If the width of the rectangle is one-half of its length, represent its width.
Digiron [165]

Answer:

L/2

Step-by-step explanation:

If the width is half of its length, that means it is 1/2*L, as L is the length. This can be simplified into L/2, which is our answer.
