X=-10 and y=-13

And the reason is that I cancelled the -4y and +4y so if the the sings are different you add if they are the same you subtract here I want to cancel the y so I add in order to cancel them out Which gets rid of it. Now I’m adding 3x to -9x Which equals -6x and when u add 22 and the 38 it equals 60 now you would have

-6x=60

Divide 60 by -6

=-10

So x is -10

To work out y u gonna have to substitute in any equation I chose the first one because it’s positive so

3x-4y=22

3x-10-4y=22

-30-4y=22

Add 30 to both sides.

-4y=52

Divide by -4

Y=-13

Find the 14th term in the sequence 1, 1/3, 1/9, … Find the sum of the first 10 terms of the sequence above.
pychu [463]

Answer:

This is a geometric progresion that begins with 1 and each term is 1/3 the preceeding term

   Let Pn represent the nth term in the sequence

   Then Pn = (1/3)^n-1

   From this P14 = (1/3)^13 = 1/1594323

5. The sum of the first n terms of a GP beginning a with ratio r is given by

   Sn = a* (r^n+1 - 1)/(r - 1)

   With n = 10, a = 1 and r = 1/3, S10 = ((1/3)^11 - 1)/(1/3 - 1) = 1.500
