Two lines have the given equations. Use the LINEAR COMBINATION METHOD to solve.
Maurinko [17]

Using linear combination method, the solution to given system of equations are (-7, -15)

<h3><u>Solution:</u></h3>

Linear combination is the process of adding two algebraic equations so that one of the variables is eliminated

Addition is used when the two equations have terms that are exact opposites, and subtraction is used when the two equations have terms that are the same.

<u><em>Given system of equations are:</em></u>

2x - y = 1  ---- eqn 1

3x - y = -6 ------ eqn 2

Subtract eqn 2 from eqn 1

2x - y = 1

3x - y = -6

(-) -------------

-x = 7

<h3>x = -7</h3>

Substitute x = -7 in eqn 1

2(-7) - y = 1

-14 - y = 1

y = -14 - 1 = -15

<h3>y = -15</h3>

Thus the solution to given system of equations are (-7, -15)

A woman standing on a hill sees a flagpole that she knows is 65 ft tall. The angle of depression to the bottom of the pole is 14
Oliga [24]

Answer:

Let the distance between woman and pole be "x".

From diagram,

In ΔOAB,

tan 18 = \frac{Perpendicular}{Base}

tan 18 =  \frac{65 -y}{x}

∴ x =  \frac{65 -y}{tan 18} ................ (1)

In ΔOBC

tan 14 = \frac{Perpendicular}{Base}

tan 14 =  \frac{y}{x}

y = x × tan 14 ..............(2)

equating (2) in (1), we get;

x = \frac{65}{tan 18 + tan 14}

x = \frac{65}{0.574}

∵ tan 18 + tan 14 = 0.574

<em>∴ x = 113.2 ft</em>

<em>i.e. The her distance from the pole is 113.2 ft.</em>

Jack can run a mile in 9, 1/3 minutes. How long will it take for him to run 3, 1/2 miles?
BARSIC [14]
If you turn 9 1/3 in to a decimal and 3 1/2 in a decimal also

9 1/3 = 9.3 and 3 1/2 =3.5
9.3+3.5 =12.8
12.8=12 4/5

Alex17521 [72]

Answer:

7x2=

14+5=

x a

Step-by-step explanation:

You usually don't write the answer after the equal symbol. You could, or can, write the answer after the equal symbol to make it into a 2 step equation.

7x2= 14

14+5= x a

What is the equation of a line passing through the point (a, b) and having a slope of b?
SVEN [57.7K]
The general form of slope-point form of the equation of line is

y-y1 = m (x-x1)

here, x1, y1 = a,b
m = b

so,
y-b = b(x-a)

thats it!
