Let

x-------> total peanuts originally from the bag

we know that

1) Phillip took 1/3 of the peanuts from the bag--------> (1/3)*x

remaining=x-(1/3)*x-------> (2/3)*x

2) Joy took 1/4 of the remaining peanuts-------> (1/4)*[(2/3)*x]----> (1/6)*x

remaining= (2/3)*x-(1/6)*x------> (1/2)*x

3) Brett took 1/2 of the remaining peanuts------> (1/2)*(1/2)*x-----> (1/4)*x

remaining= (1/2)*x-(1/4)*x-------> (1/4)*x

4) Preston took 10 peanuts------> 10

(1/4)*x-10=71----> multiply by 4 both sides----> x-40=284----> x=324 peanuts

5) Total originally peanuts from the bag is equal to 324 peanuts

6) Phillip took (1/3)*x-----> (1/3)*324=108 peanuts

7) Joy took (1/6)*x------> (1/6)*324=54 peanuts

8) Brett took (1/4)*x------> (1/4)*324=81 peanuts

9) Preston took 10

so

check

108+54+81+10=253

remaining=324-253------> remaining=71-------> is correct

As a block of ice melts it changes from 1 3/4 lb to 1/4 lb and takes 1/4 hr. What is the rate the ice changes?
Nutka1998 [239]

The rate at which the ice changes is -3/8 lb per hr

<h3>What is the rate the ice changes?</h3>

The given parameters are:

Changes =1 3/4 lb to 1/4 lb

Time = 1/4 hr.

The rate the ice changes is calculated as:

Rate = Change/Time

So, we have

Rate = (1/4 lb - 1 3/4 lb)/(1/4 hr)

Evaluate the difference

Rate = (-1 1/2 lb)/(1/4 hr)

Evaluate the quotient

Rate = -3/8 lb per hr

Hence, the rate at which the ice changes is -3/8 lb per hr

A pipe is 36 feet long. It needs to be cut into pieces that are each 3/4 feet long. How many pieces can be made from the pipe?
Ket [755]

108/4 = 27 pieces you multiply 36 x 3 = 108 and the denominator stays the same so 108/4 equals to 27 pieces

What is the slope between (2,4) and(3,-6)
RSB [31]

Answer:

2/5

Step-by-step explanation:

m=change in y/change in x

m=y_{2} - y_{1}/x_{2}-x_{1}

m = 6-(4)/3-(-2)

m=2/3-(-2)

m= 2/3+2

m=2/5
