Let’s discuss some particle physics. In 1897, physicist J.J. Thomson conducted a seminalexperiment with a cathode ray tube. In t

he experiment, a beam of an unknown particle of chargeqandmassmis shot through the tube onto a fluorescent screen, at some speedvand in thex-direction. Uponimpact the beam leaves a bright spot on the screen. Sincevis very fast, effects of gravity are negligible andthe beam forms essentially a straight line normal to the screen.
To eliminate this deflection, an external uniform magnetic field of magnitudeBis turned on as well. What should be the direction and magnitudeBof this field such that ∆z= 0?

Answer:

The direction of the magnetic field should be in the x and y coordinates alone, and their should be no change towards the z coordinate. Also the magnitude of the magnetic field in the z direction would be zero if there is no magnetic field in that coordinate.

The coordinate should be:

B = bi + bj

As you look out of your dorm window, a flower pot suddenly falls past. The pot is visible for a time t, and the vertical length
grin007 [14]

Answer:

As you look out of your dorm window, a flower pot suddenly falls past. The pot is visible for a time t, and the vertical length of your window is Lw. Take down to be the positive direction, so that downward velocities are positive and the acceleration due to gravity is the positive quantity g.

Assume that the flower pot was dropped by someone on the floor above you (rather than thrown downward).

Question:

If the bottom of your window is a height hb above the ground, what is the velocity vground of the pot as it hits the ground? You may introduce the new variable vb, the speed at the bottom of the window, defined by

vb=Lwt+gt2.

Express your answer in terms of some or all of the variables hb, Lw, t, vb, and g.

The correct answer is

vground = (t²+lw²+(2t³+2t²)×g×Lw+(t⁴+2t³+t²) ) ∧ 0.5 = vb² +2g×vbt+1/2gt²

Explanation:

We have from the relation

v = u + gt, S = ut + 1/2 gt², v² = u² + 2gS

in this case S = hb, u = vb=Lwt+gt2.  and v = vground

therefore v² = (Lwt+gt²)² + 2 × g × hb

= (Lwt+gt²)² + 2 × g ×  (Lwt+gt²)×t + 1/2 gt² = vb² +2g×vbt+1/2gt²

vground = (t²+lw²+(2t³+2t²)×g×Lw+(t⁴+2t³+t²) ) ∧ 0.5

Which pair of atoms forms ionic bonds?
natta225 [31]
Mental and non mental, an ionic bond is a type of chemical bond formed through an electrostatic attraction between two oppositely charged ions. Ionic bonds are formed between a cation, which is usually a metal, and an anion, which is usually a nonmetal.

In this experiment, you will use a natural indicator to indirectly determine the H+ concentration of some common household solut
Vlad1618 [11]
Some of the scientific questions that may be answered through the experiment are:

(1) What are the physical changes that may occur in the solution or the indicator when added with acidic/basic solution?

(2) How much of the indicator is needed in order to bring about a significant physical change in the solution to identify its H+ concentration?

Gold has a density of 19.3 grams per cubic centimeter. what is the density of gold in metric tons per cubic meter?
valina [46]
In order to determine this, we will first need some conversions. We will need to convert metric tons and grams into one another and also cubic centimeters to cubic meters into one another.

1 metric ton = 1000 kg

1 kg = 1000 grams

1 metric ton = 10⁶ grams

So 10⁶ grams / metric ton

1 meter = 100 cm
1 m³ = (100)³ cm³
1 m³ = 10⁶ cm³

So 10⁶ cm⁶ / m³

Now, we manipulate the given value:

(19.3 grams / cm³) * (1 metric ton / 10⁶ grams) * (10⁶ cm³ / m³)
= 19.3 metric tons / m³

The density of gold is 19.3 metric tons meter meter cubed.
