The power requirement of an electronic portable device is 1.5Amp at 12 volts. What is the minimum number of AA size batteries re

quired for powering this device? Assume one AA battery is capable of supplying up to 1.5 V and 1 Amp of current. Draw a picture of your answer. (Hint: How should these batteries be connected? Series? Parallel? Both?) (4 points)

Answer:

You need at least 8 batteries in order to power your electronic portable device (EPD)

The batteries need to be connected in series.

Explanation (See attachment):

The batteries we are using are rated 1.5V and 1 Amp.

  • Voltage => When batteries are connected in series, their voltage adds up. Looking at the drawing, we connected 8 batteries to get up to 12 Volts needed by the EPD.
  • Current => The current given is current capacity and real units must be in Ah or Amps-hour, meaning that each battery could supply 1 Amp for one hour before losing charge, or 2 Amps for half an hour. The load on the circuit, in this case the EPD will draw as much current as it needs to work.

A little more explanation about the drawing:

  • The drawing on the left shows 8 batteries being connected in series. It also shows a Resistance which is the internal resitance of the system and finally our load which is the electronic portable device (EPD).
  • The drawing on the left is just a way of simplifying the circuit. When connecting batteries in series you are creating a cell and that is the symbol for it.
  • The bottom drawing is an even simpler version. All you have is a battery that can supply 15V, and you know it is 8 AA batteries connected in series.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a constellation of about 24 artificial satellites. The GPS satellites are uniformly distr
Liono4ka [1.6K]

Answer:

b) 3.72m/s²

c) 9.33*10^5

d) 9.33*10^5

e) 11.85 hrs

Explanation:

a) to confirm that gEarth is about 98 m/s².

Let's use the formula:

gEarth= \frac{G*M}{R^2}

= \frac{6.67*10^-^1^1*5.972*10^2^4}{(6378*10^3)^2}

= 9.78 m/s²

=> 9.8m/s²

b) Given:

m = 6.417*10^2^3

r = 2106 miles

g_Mars = \frac{G*M}{R^2}

= \frac{6.67*10^-^1^1*6.417*10^2^3}{(2106*1.61*10^3)^2}

=3.72 m/s²

c) we use:

F = \frac{G*M*m}{R^2}

=\frac{6.67*10^-^1^1*5.972*10^2^4*1630*10^3}{((20000+6378)*10^3)^2}

= 9.33*10^5 N

d) Let's take the force of gravitybon earth due to satellite as our answer in (c) because the Earth's gravitational force on a GPS satellite and the force of gravity on a GPS satellite on earth are equal and opposite (two mutual forces).

F = 9.33*10^5 N

e) In a circular motion,

Gravitional force = Centripetal force.

\frac{GM*m}{R^2}=\frac{m*v^2}{R}

\frac{GM}{R}= v^2

Solving for v, we have

v= \sqrt{\frac{6*67*10^-^1^1*5.972*10^2^4}{(20000+6278)*10^3}}

v = 3886m/s

Therefore,

v = 2πR/T

3886 = \frac{2*pi*(20000+6378)*10^3}{T}

Solving for T, we have:

T = 42650seconds

Convert T to hours

T = 42650/60*60

T = 11.86hrs

What is an electric motor? Explain its operation. 2-3 sentence
Anarel [89]

Answer:

An electric motor is a device that changes electrical energy into mechanical energy. This change occurs due to the interaction between the magnetic field of magnets and the magnetic field due to the  electric current in the  loop. The interaction between the two produces a torque that makes the loop rotate on a shaft.

How many neutrons does element x have if it’s atomic number is 40 and it’s mass number is 82?
Black_prince [1.1K]
The atomic number gives you the number of protons element x has. Since the mass of protons and neutrons are almost similar(around 1 amu), the mass number can be thought of as the sum of protons and neutrons. so if element x whose atomic number is 40 has a mass number of 82, then we know that 42 of those must be neutrons.
