Answer:

1:   −5y+8x=−18

Slope = 3.200/2.000 = 1.600

 x-intercept = -18/8 = -9/4 = -2.25000

 y-intercept = 18/5 = 3.60000

2:   Slope = -0.800/2.000 = -0.400

 x-intercept = 58/2 = 29

 y-intercept = 58/5 = 11.60000

Step-by-step explanation:

1: Step  1  :

Equation of a Straight Line

1.1     Solve   -5y+8x+18  = 0

Tiger recognizes that we have here an equation of a straight line. Such an equation is usually written y=mx+b ("y=mx+c" in the UK).

"y=mx+b" is the formula of a straight line drawn on Cartesian coordinate system in which "y" is the vertical axis and "x" the horizontal axis.

In this formula :

y tells us how far up the line goes

x tells us how far along

m is the Slope or Gradient i.e. how steep the line is

b is the Y-intercept i.e. where the line crosses the Y axis

The X and Y intercepts and the Slope are called the line properties. We shall now graph the line  -5y+8x+18  = 0 and calculate its properties

Graph of a Straight Line :

Calculate the Y-Intercept :

Notice that when x = 0 the value of y is 18/5 so this line "cuts" the y axis at y= 3.60000

 y-intercept = 18/5  =  3.60000

Calculate the X-Intercept :

When y = 0 the value of x is -9/4 Our line therefore "cuts" the x axis at x=-2.25000

 x-intercept = -18/8 = -9/4  = -2.25000

Calculate the Slope :

Slope is defined as the change in y divided by the change in x. We note that for x=0, the value of y is 3.600 and for x=2.000, the value of y is 6.800. So, for a change of 2.000 in x (The change in x is sometimes referred to as "RUN") we get a change of 6.800 - 3.600 = 3.200 in y. (The change in y is sometimes referred to as "RISE" and the Slope is m = RISE / RUN)

Step-by-step explanation:

Direct variation is essentially a linear equation, where there is a constant rate. Direct variation can be applied to many things, and we can use it to represent how much money someone has in their bank account after "x" weeks if they're depositing a constant amount of money each week.

So a practical example would be: If someone just opened a bank account and deposits $50 every week, how many weeks will it take for them to have $400 in their account.

So the slope is given in the question, it's $50, since their depositing that constant amount each week. So this gives us the equation: y=50x where x represents the amount of weeks. The y represents the amount of money they have, and since we want to find when this equals 400, we set the y=400, and then solve for x. This gives us the equation: 400=50x. Dividing both sides by 50 you get: 8=x. So it'll take 8 weeks to have $400 dollars, if you deposit 50 dollars each week.

4x-9y=1, -4x+6y=-2<br> solve the system of equations using the linear combination method.
Mars2501 [29]
4  x - 9 y = 1
- 4 x + 6 y = - 2

- 3 y = - 1
y = 1

4 x - 9 y = 1
4 x - 9 ( 1) = 1
4 x - 9 = 1
4 x = 1 +9
4 x = 10
x = 10/4 = 2.5

4. Multiply the two polynomials using the destructive property.5. Are the two products the same when you multiply them horizonta
nikklg [1K]

Given:

(4x^2-4x)(x^2-4)

To multiply the two polynomials using the distributive property, we first follow the rule shown below:

For: (a+b)(c+d)=a(c+d)+b(c+d)=ac+ad+bc+bd

We let:

\begin{gathered} a=4x^2 \\ b=-4x \\ c=x^2 \\ d=-4 \end{gathered}

Now, we plug in what we know:

\begin{gathered} (4x^{2}-4x)(x^{2}-4) \\ =(4x^2)(x^2)+(4x^2)(-4)+(-4x)(x^2)+(-4x)(-4) \\ Simplify\text{ and rearrange} \\ =4x^4-16x^2-4x^3+16x \\ =4x^4-4x^3-16x^2+16x \end{gathered}

Therefore, the answer is:

=4x^4-4x^3-16x^2+16x
