<h3>Answer: $44.10</h3>

====================================================

Work Shown:

5% = 5/100 = 0.05

5% of 42 = 0.05*42 = 2.10

tax = $2.10

total cost including tax = $42 + $2.10 = $44.10

----------

An alternative is to multiply 42 by 1.05 to get

1.05*42 = 44.10

We get the same answer. The 1.05 refers to 1 + 0.05 where the "1" is 100% and the 0.05 is 5%, so the two combine to 105%, meaning the total cost is 105% of the cost before tax is considered.

Answer:

D: The slope is 3

Step-by-step explanation:

To figure out the slope, which is always a constant, you simply figure out the average displacement using the points we already know. This is described by the equation y2-y1/x2-x1. Let's use the ordered pairs (-3, 2) and (-1, 8) to figure this out.

8-2/-1-(-3) = 6/2 = 3

Another method you could use is to graph the points and figure out how many units y has to go up for every x over, or the "rise over run"

Either way, your slope is 3.

PLEASE HELP 46 POINTS Use composition of functions to determine whether or not f(x) and g(x) are inverses of each other. Show al
IRISSAK [1]

Remark

The reason you are not getting many replies to this is an uncertainty about f(x). We do not know if you mean f(x) = 2/(x - 6) or f(x) = (2/x) - 6. We'll try it both ways.

First Way f(x) = 2/(x - 6)

f(x = y = 2/(x - 6)             Interchange x and y

x = 2 / (y - 6)                   Multiply both sides by y - 6

x(y - 6) = 2                      Divide by x

y - 6 = 2/x                       Add 6 to both sides.

y  = 2/x + 6                     Which is close to g(x) but it is not the same thing, even if you use x as a common denominator. That would give you

\dfrac{6x + 2}{x}

Second Way: f(x) = (2/x) - 6

f(x) = y = (2/x) - 6           Interchange x and y

x = (2/y) - 6                    Add 6 to both sides

x + 6 = 2/y                     Multiply  both sides by y

y(x + 6) = 2                    Divide by sides by (x + 6)

y = 2/(x + 6)

Comment

These do not look anything alike so g(x) and f(x) are not inverses.
