A box has two balls, one white and one red. We select one ball, put it back in the box, and select a second ball (sampling with

replacement). Let T be the event of getting the white ball twice, F the event of picking the white ball first, S the event of picking the white ball in the second drawing. Compute P ( T ) . Compute P ( T | F ) . Are T and F independent

Answer:

P (T) = 1/4

P ( T | F )    = 1/2  = P(F)

The events are not independent.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let F the event of picking the white ball first

P (F)= 1/2   ( picking the white ball first)

Let T be the event of getting the white ball twice,

P (T) = P( getting white ball) * P( getting white ball)

          =( 1/2)*(1/2)

           = 1/4

Here P(T∩F) = P(T) because the probability of getting the white balls is the same as probability of getting the white ball first both the times.

P ( T | F ) = P (T∩F)/ P(F)

                = (1/4)/ (1/2)

                  = (1/2)

                    = 1/2  = P(F)

For the events to be independent the conditional probability P ( T | F ) must be equal to P(T).

Hence the events are not independent.

The width of a rectangle is 6 2/3 inches. The length of the is twice it’s width. What so the perimeter of the rectangle?
Nookie1986 [14]
\text {Width = }  6\dfrac{2}{3}  \text { inches}

The length is twice its width:
\text {Length = } 2 \times 6\dfrac{2}{3} \text { inches}

Change to improper fraction:
\text {Length = }2 \times \dfrac{20}{3} \text { inches}

Combine into single fraction:
\text {Length = } \dfrac{40}{3} \text { inches}

Find Perimeter :
\text {Perimeter = Length + Length + Width + Width}

\text {Perimeter = } \dfrac{40}{3} + \dfrac{40}{3}   + \dfrac{20}{3}   + \dfrac{20}{3} = \dfrac{120}{3}  = 40 \text { inches}

\bf \text {Answer: Perimeter =  40 inches}

What is the factored form of n2 – 25? (n – 25)(n – 1) (n – 5)(n + 5) (n + 5)(n + 5) (n – 25)(n + 1)
dexar [7]
Hi there!
We are asked to find the correct factored form of n² - 25. Immediately, we can see that 25 has a perfect square root, 5. Now, we can rewrite the expression into n² - 5². Finally, using the difference of squares rule, we can derive the equation (n + 5)(n - 5). Therefore, the answer is (n + 5)(n - 5). Hope this helped!

Ralph is 3 times as old as Sara. In 4 years, Ralph will be only twice as old as Sara will be then. Find Ralph's age now. If x re
tino4ka555 [31]

Answer:

2x + 4

Step-by-step explanation:

Let R = Ralph's age

and x = Sarah's age

          Then Ralph's age in 4 years = R + 4

       and Sarah's age in four years = x + 4

Thus,                                       R + 4 = 2(x + 4)

Distribute the 2                      R + 4  =     2x + 8

Subtract 4 from each side     R        =     2x + 4

Ralph's age is 2x + 4.
