Factor by grouping : xy + 6y - 2x - 12 (if you don't know the answer don't comment)
alexira [117]
<h3> Hey There today we will solve your problem</h3>

First we will factor out y from xy+6y which gives us y(x+6)

Next we will factor out -2 from -2x-12 which gives us -2(x+6)

This gives us the equation

y(x+6)-2(x+6)

then factor out the common term  x+6<em> and we get</em>

<em />\left(x+6\right)\left(y-2\right)

A wooden plank is leaning against a wall. The bottom of the plank is 3 feet from the wall. Answer each of the following question
Nadusha1986 [10]

AB = ==> distance between the bottom of the plank; and the wall ===> 3 ft.

C ====> 49 degrees

For letter a, to solve for AC:

AC ==> HYPOTENUSE. The angle C is the OPPOSITE side of AB.

use sine :

sin A ===> opposite/hypotenuse

Solve:

sin 49 ====> 3/AC

AC ====> 3 / sin 49

AC ====> 3.96 ft.

For letter b, to solve for BC:

We are now given with the base (3 ft.); and; the hypotenuse (3.96 ft.) so we can use the Pythagorean theorem:

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

Let:

a ===> AB

b ===> BC

c ===> AC

(AB)^2 + (BC)^2 ===> (AC)^2

3^2 + (BC)^2 ===> (3.96)^2

(BC)^2 ===> (3.96)^2 - 3^2

(BC)^2 ===> 6.6816

sqrt (BC)^2 ===> sqrt 6.6816

Answer: BC ===> 2.58 ft.

Hope that helps!!!! : )

A total of 644 tickets were sold for the school play. They were either adult tickets or student tickets. There were 56 fewer stu
DochEvi [55]

Create formulas!

x=number of adult tickets

y=number of student tickets

x+y=644  <em>total sold</em>

56+y=x    <em>student was 56 less than adult</em>

Perform substitution

(56+y)+y=644

56+2y=644

2y=588

y=294

Substitute y into the formula we created

x+294=644

x=350

350 adult tickets were sold.
