Answer: NATO and the Warsaw Pact were two competing alliances during COLD WAR time period.

Explanation:

Cold war was an era that started immediately after the second world war. This was to be a long lasting and continuing confrontation between the Soviet Union and the United States, lasting from 1945 to 1989. It was called the Cold War because neither the Soviet Union nor the United States officially declared war on each other.

The two major cold war alliances were the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) and the Warsaw Pact. The countries that make up the NATO includes Britain, France, the United States, Canada, and eight other western European countries while Warsaw pact was created by Soviet Union.

For years the both alliances never engaged in military war but developed strategic policies aimed at the containment of each other in Europe while working and fighting for influence within the wider Cold War on the international stage. I hope this helps, thanks!

Which of the following statements are true regarding pathogens?
dexar [7]

Answer:

Regarding pathogens, the statement that is true is that viruses cannot reproduce on their own.

Explanation:

Viruses are pathogenic agents not considered as living beings, since they are only constituted by genetic material surrounded by a viral capsid, besides not fulfilling vital functions.

These agents are unable to reproduce on their own, so they need to place their genetic material —DNA or RNA— inside a host cell, to modify its nuclear DNA and be able to reproduce.

The other options are not correct because:

 • Influenza can cause an upset stomach. Influenza primarily affects the respiratory system.
 • Pathogens affect everyone equally. Each individual's immune response is different when exposed to the same pathogen.
 • Fungi are large, stoneflies organisms. The pathogenic fungi, such as Candida albicans and Trichophyton, are different from the mushrooms and fungi that can be seen in soil or decomposed organic matter.
