A ten story hospital has to constructed with the footprint of 45,000 ft^2. Subsurface soil consist of soft clay layer of 10 ft.

Deep pile foundation will be used for supporting the building. The depth of pile foundation will be the 15ft.
Required:
a. Determine number of the boring to be used for the subsurface investigation using NYC Code Mandate discussed in the class.
b. Also determine the depth of the boring to be used for subsurface investigation.

Answer:

a) approximately, the number of bores to be used is 17

b) depth of the boring is 25 ft from ground level

Explanation:

Given the data in the question;

we know that; The New York City Code mandate; deep foundation clause Number 1802.4.1  states that required number of borings shall not be less than two boring

i.e  a minimum Number of 1 boring per 2000 square foot for the first 20,000 square foot and one boring per every additional 4000 square foot

so;

number of the boring to be used for the subsurface investigation using NYC Code Mandate will be;

⇒ 20,000/2000 + [( 45,000 - 2000)/4000]

= 10 + 6.25

= 16.25 ≈ 17

approximately, the number of boring to be used is 17

b)

the depth of the boring to be used for subsurface investigation will be;

⇒ 10 ft + 15 ft

= 25 ft

Therefore, depth of the boring is 25 ft from ground level

What is the function of filters in communication system ?
mihalych1998 [28]

In signal processing, a filter is a device or process that removes some unwanted components or features from a signal. Filtering is a class of signal processing, the defining feature of filters being the complete or partial suppression of some aspect of the signal. Most often, this means removing some frequencies or frequency bands. However, filters do not exclusively act in the frequency domain; especially in the field of image processing many other targets for filtering exist.

A hole of diameter D = 0.25 m is drilled through the center of a solid block of square cross section with w = 1 m on a side. The
attashe74 [19]

Answer:

q=4.013\:\:kW\\\\T_1=278.91\:\:^{\circ}C\\\\T_2=275.82\:\:^{\circ}C

Explanation:

R_{conv,1}=(h_1\pi D_1L)^{-1}=(50*0.25*2)^{-1}=0.01273\:\:K/W\\\\R_{conv,2}=(h^2*4wL)^{-1}=(4*4*1)^{-1}=0.0625\:\:K/W\\\\R_{cond(2D)}=(Sk)^{-1}=(8.59*150)^{-1}=0.00078\:\:K/W

So, heat rate can be calculated as follows:

q=\frac{T_{\infty,1}-T_{\infty,2}}{R_{conv,1}+R_{conv,2}+R_{cond(2D)}} =\frac{330-25}{0.076} =4.013\:\:kW

Surface temperatures can be calculated as follows:

T_1=T_{\infty,1}-qR_{conv,1}=330-51.09=278.91\:\:^{\circ}C\\\\T_2=T_{\infty,2}+qR_{conv,2}=25+250.82=275.82\:\:^{\circ}C

Nina [5.8K]

Answer:

A) Batch shop production

B) Batch shop production

C) Job shop production

D) production line

Explanation:

A)The preferred production system here will be  Batch shop production because the manufacturer produces different styles of clothing and sells to small specialty stores hence producing in Batches can help meet up the needs

B) The preferred production system here will be Batch shop production because the manufacturer produces Gaskets and they are of different styles hence he needs to produce them in batches

C) Job shop production

D) production here is streamlined to a particular ( tablet form ) hence the production system here would be a Production line system of production

Air at 40°C flow steadily through the pipe shown in Fig. 1 below. If P1 = 40 kPa (gage), P2 = 10 kPa (gage), D = 3d, Patm ≅ 100
Dafna1 [17]

Based on the average velocity at section 2, and the absolute pressures at both sectors, the average speed at section 1 is 2.226 m/s.

<h3>What is the average speed at section 1?</h3>

Density at P₁:

= (40 + 100) / (0.287 x  (40 + 273))

= 1.5585 kg/m³

Density at P₂:
= (10 + 100) / (0.287 x  (40 + 273))

= 1.2245 kg/m³

The average speed at section 1 is:

= (Density at P₂ x d² x 25.5) / (Density at P₁ x 9d²)

= 2.226 m/s
