Which of the following atoms forms an ionic bond with a sulfur atom? (Points : 3)
elena-s [515]
Ionic bonds are formed when there is complete transfer of valence electrons between two atoms.

Electronegativity tells the trend of an atom to atract electrons.

You should search for the complete set of rules that indicate whether an ionic or covalent bond happens.

There are two relevant rules to state if whether an ionic bond will happen:

- When the difference of electronegativities between the two atoms is greater than 2.0, then the bond is ionic.

- When the difference is between 1.6 and 2.0, the bond is ionic if one of the elements is a metal.

You need to list the electronegativities of the five elements (there are tables with this information)

Element  electronegativity

Cu:    1.9
H:      2.2
Cl      3.16
I:        2.66
S:      2.58

Differences:

Cu / S: 2.58 - 1.9 = 0.68
H / S: 2.58 - 2.2 = 0.38
Cl / S: 3.16 - 2.58 =0.58
I / S: 2.66 -  2.58 = 0.08

Those differences are too low to consider that the bond is ionic.

Then the answer is that none of those atoms forms an ionic bond with sulfur.

How to calculate the frequency of an ion
sergij07 [2.7K]

solution:

You need to find the frequency, and they have already given you the wavelength. And since you already know the speed of light, you can use formula (2) to answer this problem. Remember to convert the nano meters to meters because the speed of light is in meters. (1 nm = 1.0 x 10^{-9} m)

v=c\lambda \\v= (3.00 \times 10^8 m/s)/(6.9\times 10^-7 m) \\v = 4.35 \times 10^{14} s^{-1}

Describe at least two ways that a researcher can minimize experimental errors in an investigation.
Leto [7]
Experimental errors can be of two kinds: human error and analytical error. Analytical error can be corrected easily. You just have to use instruments that are of high precision. For example, instead of using the platform balance, use the analytical balance which displays 4 decimal places to be highly accurate. For the human error, this is subjective. The only way to correct human error is to be more meticulous on your data measurements.

Given the NaOH density =1.0698g mL^-1, How many mL of .71M HCl would be required to neutralize 11.33g of 2.03 M NaOH?
SSSSS [86.1K]

The volume in ml of 0.71 M HCl that would be required to neutralize 11.33 g of 2.03 M NaOH is 30.3 ml

calculation

Step 1 : write equation for reaction

NaOH + HCl →NaCl +H₂O

Step 2:find the volume of NaOH

volume=mass/ density

= 11.33 g/ 1.0698 g/ml  =10.59 ml

Step 3: find the moles of NaOH

moles = molarity x volume in liters

molarity= 2.03 M=2.03 mol/l

volume  in liters =10.59/1000 =0.0106 L

moles  = 2.03 M  x 0.0106 L =0.0215  moles

step 4: use the mole ratio to determine the moles of HCl

from equation in step 1 , NaOH:HCl is 1:1 therefore the moles of HCl is also 0.0215 moles

Step 5: find volume of HCl

volume= moles/ molarity

molarity  =0.71 M =0.71 mol/l

=0.0215 moles /0.71  mol/l=0.0303 L

into ml =0.0303 x 1000=30.3 ml
