Sum indicated you are going to be using addition so "4 and x" is what you will be adding (4 + x) and the sum of that is greater then (>) 6.
A way to remember which symbol goes which way:
So this is bob the alligator's mouth > he will always try to eat whatever is bigger so 6 > x so in this case 6 is greater then the value of X and bob will try to eat it. 4 < x 4 is less then the value of X so of course bob will try to eat X
