the side that is parallel to this side measures 9 cm.
if you are confused on how to look at this problem, look at it this way...

if we take away the side that measures 6 cm, we also need to take away 6 cm from the 10 cm side. if we do this, we end up with a 14 cm side and a 9 cm side with a missing (x) cm which we would add to the 9 cm side. look at it this way, if we put the 9 cm side and the (?) side on top of each other, it looks equal to the 14 cm side.

to solve for the length (in cm) of the missing side, I took 14 cm and subtracted 9 cm from it. when I did this, I got an answer of 5 cm. in conclusion, the missing side (?) is 5 cm.
