A 3 kg block is attached to a vertical spring. Initially, you exert a 50 N downwards force on the block, holding it in place, at

rest. You let go. Find the instantaneous acceleration of the block immediately after you let go. What is the direction of the acceleration

As you were holding the block down and in place, the spring exerted an upward force that balanced the downward push by your hand and its own weight. So this restoring force has a magnitude of <em>R</em> such that

<em>R</em> - 50 N - (3 kg) <em>g</em> = 0   =>   <em>R</em> = 79.4 N

As soon as you remove your hand, the block has acceleration <em>a</em> such that, by Newton's second law,

<em>R</em> - (3 kg) <em>g</em> = (3 kg) <em>a</em>   =>   <em>a</em> = (79.4 N - (3 kg) <em>g</em>) / (3 kg) ≈ 16.7 m/s^2

1. Spring force is proportional to stretch distance, F=kd. Do you expect doubling the stretch distance double the force?
Solnce55 [7]

Answer:

Yes

Explanation:

The spring force is given as:

          F  = kd

F is the spring force

K is the spring constant

d is the magnitude of the stretch

 Since k is a constant, therefore, doubling the stretch distance will double the force.

Both stretch distance and force applied can be said to be directly proportional to one another.

The concentration of sodium and potassium ions in the blood and body fluid is regulated by :
Liula [17]

Answer:

Kidney

Explanation:

One of the main function of the kidney is to maintain the homeostasis of sodium and potassium ions in the blood and body.

Aldosterone is a key steroid hormone that balances sodium and potassium ions in the blood and body fluid. Potassium and sodium ions generate electric impulse in the body which helps to perform different activities such as muscles flexing.

Kidney function for reabsorption and secretion, in which reabsorption of Na is done nd balances the sodium and potassium in the blood and body.

What is mass times acceleration?
frozen [14]

Answer:

Force

Explanation:

The mass of an object is the quantity of matter it contains. It is measured in kilograms.

Acceleration is the ratio of the change in the velocity of an object to the change in time. It is measured in m/s^{2}.

When the mass of an object is multiplied with its acceleration, this gives the average force applied on the object. As force is defined as agent that can change the state of an object.

i.e     F = m × a

where F is the force, m is the mass of the object and a its acceleration.

The two major classes of force are; contact force and field force.
