Problem 1: Plug in the given value into the function and evaluate.

f(x)=|3x|\\f(2)=|3(2)|\\f(2)=|6|\\f(2)=6

Problem 2: Solve the equation for y.

-7x+2y=8

add 7x to both sides to move it to the right side of the equation.

2y=7x+8

Divide both sides of the equation by 2 to get a single y variable on the left hand side.

\frac{2y}{2} =\frac{7x}{2} +\frac{8}{2} \\y=\frac{7}{2}x+4

Simplify the terms to get the the equation into slope-intercept form.

The slope of the line is \frac{7}{2}

I'm a unsure what Problem 3 is asking for sorry I hope the rest is helpful.

a store marks up the merchandise it sells by 40%. If the regular price of the item WAS $25 how much is the store selling it for.
devlian [24]
So if the regular price of an item is 25 and the store is marking it up by 40%, then we have to multiply 25 by .4 to find out what 40% of 25 dollars is. 40% of 25 is 10 dollars. So now you just do 25 + 10 and you get 35. Answer: $35

What is the solution set for the following system of equations 5x-3y-10=0 x+y-7=0
garik1379 [7]

(x, y) = ( \frac{31}{8}, \frac{25}{8})

given the 2 equations

5x - 3y - 10 = 0 → (1)

x + y - 7 = 0 → (2)

rearrange (2) to obtain y in terms of x

y = 7 - x → (3)

Substitute y = 7 - x into (1)

5x - 3(7 - x) - 10 = 0

5x - 21 + 3x - 10 = 0

8x - 31 = 0 ( add 31 to both sides )

8x = 31 ( divide both sides by 8 )

x = \frac{31}{8}

Substitute this value into (3) for y

y = 7 - x = \frac{56}{8} - \frac{31}{8} = \frac{25}{8}
