Suppose `h\left(t\right)=-5t^{2}+10t+3`is an expression giving the height of a diver above the water (in meters), t seconds afte
prisoha [69]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

a) The height of the springboard above the water should be h(0) : Read, the height at t = 0

h(0) = -5(0) + 10(0) + 3

h(0) = 0 + 0 + 3

h(0) = 3

a) 3 meters

b)  The time it takes the diver to hit water should be, the positive 0 solution for t.  Remember, in a quadratic equation,  there are two values for t where a parabola crosses the horizontal axis, which in this case would be t.  Just by looking at the function, h(t) = -5t2 + 10t + 3 , one should be able to see that it cannot be factored easily, so it requires the Quadratic Formula to find the zeros ; x = -b ±√(b2-4ac)  / 2a

Substitute t for x, and use the coefficients for a, b, c:

t  =  (-10 ± √((102 - 4(-5)(3)))/2(-5)

t = (-10 ±√(100 + 60))/-10

t = (-10 ±√160)/-10) ; Now factor the 160 to simplify:

t = (-10 ±√(10*16))/-10

t = (-10 ±4√10)/-10 ; Factor out leading coefficient of -2 from the numerator:

t = -2(5 ± 2√10)/-10

t = (5 ± 2√10)/5

Using a calculator to find the zeros, and disregarding the negative zero (because t starts at 0):

t ≈ 2.265

b) approx. 2.265 seconds for diver to hit water.

c) To find this, set the function equal to 3 to find what other value for t would be equal to 3 (we know one is 0).

-5tt + 10t + 3 = 3

-5t2 + 10t = 0 ; factor out t

t(-5t + 10) = 0

We know t = 0:

We also know that -5t + 10 = 0

-5t = -10

t = 2

c) 2 seconds. This is the time that diver would equal height of t=0 which is where he started, and where he equals the height of the springboard.

d and e) The peak of the dive (parabola), is determined using the formula h = -b/2a (Derived from the Quadratic Formula) to find the y value (in this case, the h value, answering e) and then using that result in the function to find the x value (in this case, the t value answering d) of the point where the parabola (dive path) reaches a maximum(height), or minimum(in upward opening parabolas).

h = -10/2(-5)

h = -10/-10

h = 1

h(1) = -5(1)2 + 10(1) + 3

h(1) = -5 + 10 + 3

h(1) = 8

d) At t = 1 second, diver will have reached peak of dive.

e) At t = 1 second, diver will have reached a maximum height of 8 meters.

Carla buys a dress for $20.00 she pays 7 percent sales tax .. How much does she pay for the dress with tax?
BaLLatris [955]

Answer:

Carla pays $21.4 for the dress with tax.

Step-by-step explanation:

Here we are given that :

Price of dress = $20

Sales tax = 7%

Price of dress with tax = $20 + 7% of 20

Price of dress with tax = 20+1.4 = 21.4

Price of dress with tax = $21.4

Carla pays $21.4 for the dress with tax.

I need help with #1 of this problem. It has writings on it because I just looked up the answer because I’m confused but I want t
belka [17]

In the figure below

1) Using the theorem of similar triangles (ΔBXY and ΔBAC),

\frac{BX}{BA}=\frac{BY}{BC}=\frac{XY}{AC}

Where

\begin{gathered} BX=4 \\ BA=5 \\ BY=6 \\ BC\text{ = x} \end{gathered}

Thus,

\begin{gathered} \frac{4}{5}=\frac{6}{x} \\ \text{cross}-\text{multiply} \\ 4\times x=6\times5 \\ 4x=30 \\ \text{divide both sides by the coefficient of x, which is 4} \\ \text{thus,} \\ \frac{4x}{4}=\frac{30}{4} \\ x=7.5 \end{gathered}

thus, BC = 7.5

2) BX = 9, BA = 15, BY = 15, YC = y

In the above diagram,

\begin{gathered} BC=BY+YC \\ \Rightarrow BC=15\text{ + y} \end{gathered}

Thus, from the theorem of similar triangles,

\begin{gathered} \frac{BX}{BA}=\frac{BY}{BC}=\frac{XY}{AC} \\ \frac{9}{15}=\frac{15}{15+y} \end{gathered}

solving for y, we have

\begin{gathered} \frac{9}{15}=\frac{15}{15+y} \\ \text{cross}-\text{multiply} \\ 9(15+y)=15(15) \\ \text{open brackets} \\ 135+9y=225 \\ \text{collect like terms} \\ 9y\text{ = 225}-135 \\ 9y=90 \\ \text{divide both sides by the coefficient of y, which is 9} \\ \text{thus,} \\ \frac{9y}{9}=\frac{90}{9} \\ \Rightarrow y=10 \end{gathered}

thus, YC = 10.

PLEASE ANSWER FAST WILL DO BRAINLIESTThe coordinate grid shows points A through K. What point is a solution to the system of ine
Alja [10]

Answer:  points B (4,7) and  I (9,3)

If the inequalities are

y > −2x + 10  and y> (½)x -2

Step-by-step explanation:  If I interpreted the inequalities correctly, the attached graph shows them. It is possible that you meant  y > 1/(2x-2) for the second inequality. If so, we start over!

You can test the values for all the points, but it appears that (4,7) and (9,3) both work.

The other coordinates appear to be outside the solution -- the dark-shaded area.

I hope this is your Brainliest answer. It was a lot of work!
