When I have really bad period cramps i take a warm bath. Drink lots of water, and use a heating pad depending on where it hurts. I know they suck im sorry. Try to get your mind off them and just do what your body feels right.
p.s. i used to use tampons but since i've switched to a Diva Cup i rarely have cramps and i don't have to worry about leakage! But find whats best for you.
