in rhombus ABCD the measure in inches of AB is 3x+2 and BC is x+12 Find the number of inches in the length of DC
Afina-wow [57]
<h3>Answer: 17 inches</h3>

===============================

Rule: All four sides of a rhombus are the same length

So AB = BC

Use this to solve for x

AB = BC

3x+2 = x+12

3x-x = 12-2

2x = 10

x = 5

If x = 5, then

AB = 3*x+2 = 3*5+2 = 15+2 = 17

and

BC = x+12 = 5+12 = 17

Both sides are 17 as expected, so the proper x value is confirmed.

So DC is also 17 since AB = DC

At a certain time of day, a 5.5 foot tall man has a 6 foot shadow. if a tree is 19.25 feet tall, what is the length of the shado
Minchanka [31]
At a certain time of day, a 5.5 foot tall man has a 6 foot shadow. if a tree is 19.25 feet tall, what is the length of the shadow of the tree(x=shadow of the tree)

the equation for the problem is...
5.5/6=19.25/x
you then multiply the denominators on both sides...
5.5x=19.25*6
you then solve on one side...
5.5x=115.5
and then divide 5.5 on both sides to leave x alone...
x=21
the shadow of the tree is 21
