The scale is evenly balanced. Explain how to find the weight (w) of one turtle.
Tomtit [17]

Answer: 8 units

Step-by-step explanation:

Set this up as an equation with a variable for turtles. Count up the other side of the scale (without turtles). Add up the three 1s and the 4 to get 7. Then add up all four 7s. This will get you with an equation 3t+4=28.

To solve this, first subtract 4 from both sides to get 3t=24. Now divide both sides by 3. 24/3=8. Each turtle weighs 8 units.

A muffin recipe, which yields 12 muffins, calls for 2/3 cup of milk for every 1 3/4 cups of flour. The same recipe calls for 1/4
vovikov84 [41]

Answer:

18

Step-by-step explanation:

First I'm making all mixed numbers improper fractions.

Base recipe: 12 muffins = 2/3 milk + 7/4 flour + 1/4 coconut + 3/4 apple

Change: 9/8 apple

On second look, I ddn't need to do that except for the last one, the change in apple.  When increasing things proportionally you basically multiply everything by the same number.  A simple example.

Say a recipe made 10 of something with 1 of ingredient A and 2 of ingredient B.  Well, what if you made the recipe twice?  that would be 20 things from 2 of A and 4 of B.  This is the same as changing the recipe to make double.  It works if you halve things as well, or multiply by any number or fraction.

So the point is, we changed the amount of apples.  We want to know how much we changed it by, then that much is how much the total number of muffins changes.  So if we doubled apples the muffins would double, but I don't think it's that simple.

Started at 3/4 cup of chopped apple and increased to 9/8 cups.  We want to know what to multiiply by to do this.  So we set up a simple algebraic equation.

(3/4)x = 9/8

where x is what we multiply by.  Now, to do this you could do one step, divide by 3/4 or you could do it in two steps, multiply both sides by 4 then divide by 3.  Or the other way around.  Either way you will get the same number.

(3/4)x = 9/8

3x = 9/2

x = 3/2

And you can (and should) double check

(3/4)x = 9/8

(3/4)(3/2) = 9/8

9/8 = 9/8

Yay!  If you don't gt fraction multiplication let me know.  But the recipie is an increase of 3/2 or 1.5, so there will be 1.5 as many muffins.

12*1.5 = 12(3/2) = 18

There are 8 blue candies, 5 pink candies, 1 white candy, and 6 green candies in a candy jar. You reach in, without looking, and
kupik [55]

Answer:

30%

Step-by-step explanation:

Find the total number of candies in the jar.

8 + 5 + 1 + 6 = 20

The probability of choosing a green candy is 6/20 = 3/10 = .3 = 30%

Write an equation in slope intercept form for <br> the given slope.<br> (5,9).(6,8)
vovangra [49]

<u>Answer: </u>

The equation in slope intercept form for (5,9) and (6,8) is y = 3x-10

<u>Solution: </u>

Given that (5,9) and (6,8)

Here, x_{1}=5 ; y_{1}=5 ; x_{2}=6 ; y_{2}=8

We know the slope of an equation is given by y = mx+c

To find the value of m, we use the below given formula

\mathrm{m}=\frac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}}

Substituting the values we get,

\mathrm{m}=\frac{8-5}{6-5}

m = \frac{3}{1}

m = 3

Putting the value of m in the slope intercept form we get,

y = 3x+c

To find the value of c, we substitute the value of x and y from any two given point. Let’s take x = 5 and y = 5

5 = 3(5) + c

5 = 15 +c

5-15 = c

c = -10

Therefore the slope intercept equation becomes y = 3x -10

Please help with this math homework question below.
zlopas [31]

<u>Given</u>:

The given equations are -6 x+4 y=22 and y=11-4 x

We need to determine the pair of numbers that is a member to the system of equations.

<u>Pair of numbers:</u>

The pair of numbers can be determined by solving the system of equations.

Let us use the substitution method to solve the equations.

Substituting y=11-4 x in the equation -6 x+4 y=22, we have;

-6 x+4 (11-4x)=22

  -6 x+44-16x=22

             44-22x=22

                  -22x=-22

                        x=1

Thus, the value of x is 1.

Substituting x = 1 in the equation y=11-4 x, we get;

y=11-4(1)

y=11-4

y=7

Thus, the value of y is 7.

Hence, the pair of numbers that is a member of both the equations are (1,7)
