Since a lot of loyalist fled during the Revolutionary war to avoid persecution, their houses were left behind. The left behind houses were often used to shelter the soldiers ad were usually torn up due to the war. Once The revolution ended and America and Britain signed the peace treaty (forgot the actual name) one part of the agreement was for loyalist property to be return. loyalist were angry to come back to their homes and seeing that they had been torn up... thus starting the conflict.
