Need help with some inverse trigonometric expressions, rounded to the nearest degree.
rjkz [21]
A Google or Bing search box can be your friend, if you don't have a calculator with inverse trig functions. Most calculators that have trig functions also have the inverse functions, usually after a 2nd or "shift" key. Often, there is a mode setting for degrees or radians.

arcsin(0.33) ≈ 19°
arccos(0.47) ≈ 62°
arctan(1.21) ≈ 50°
arcsin(0.82) ≈ 55°

URGENT: If θ is a second-quadrant angle and cosθ = -2/3, then tanθ = _____.
dangina [55]

In the second quadrant, both cos and tan are negative while only sin is positive.

To find tan, we will use the following property below:

\large \boxed{ {tan}^{2}  \theta  =  {sec}^{2}   \theta - 1}

Sec is the reciprocal of cos. If cos is a/b then sec is b/a. Since cos is 2/3 then sec is 3/2

\large{ {tan}^{2}  \theta =  {( -  \frac{3}{2}) }^{2}  - 1} \\   \large{ {tan}^{2}  \theta =   \frac{9}{4}  - 1} \\   \large{ {tan}^{2}  \theta = \frac{9}{4}   -  \frac{4}{4} \longrightarrow  \frac{5}{4}  } \\  \large{tan \theta =  \frac{ \sqrt{5} }{ \sqrt{4} } } \\  \large \boxed{tan \theta =  \frac{ \sqrt{5} }{2} }

Since tan is negative in the second quadrant. Hence,

\large{ \cancel{ tan \theta  =  \frac{ \sqrt{5} }{2} } \longrightarrow \boxed{tan \theta =  -  \frac{ \sqrt{5} }{2} }}

Answer

A skydiver is falling 176 feet per second. How many feet per minute is he falling
Vlada [557]
The correct answer here is that if the skydiver is falling 176 feet per second, he is falling 10560 feet per minute. This can be worked out quite easily, by considering that if there are 60 seconds in a minute, we then need to work out the proportion of 176 feet/1 sec = x/60 sec. You then need to multiply 60 by 176 to get 10560, which is your answer.
