You have read passage excerpts from “The Lewis and Clark Journey of Discovery” and from “Sacagawea.” The authors both describe t

he leadership of the members of the expedition and the impact the different skills each of the participants had on the success of the expedition.
Based on what you have read, write an essay arguing whether Sacagawea was essential to the expedition’s success. Use evidence from both passages to support your argument.

Your writing will be scored based on the development of ideas, organization of writing, and language conventions of grammar, usage, and mechanics.

Who’s Who In the Lewis and Clark Expedition

The Expedition’s Founder

Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)

Early in his presidency, Thomas Jefferson’s interest in science led him to solicit

advice from the most important scientific minds in the Republic in preparation for a

major scientific expedition to explore the western regions of the North American

continent. In January 1803 Jefferson sent a secret message to Congress urging approval

for the western expedition. The unexpected purchase of Louisiana in April added to the

importance of the proposed scientific venture that was to be led by Jefferson’s personal

secretary and fellow Virginian, Meriwether Lewis.

IRISSAK [1]

Answer:

character versus character

Explanation:

The text presents a character versus character conflict. This is because Sara (who is a character) has to suffer the consequences caused by the egoism of Miss Minchin (who is another character), who treats Sara in a very bad way because the girl has become poor.

The Little Princess tells the story of Sara Crewe, a wealthy girl who loses everything when she experiences a terrible tragedy. Obliged to work as a maid, to go cold and to hunger, she continues to preserve her nobility, and thus maintains her pride and her generosity.
