In a science fiction novel two enemies, Bonzo and Ender, are fighting in outer spce. From stationary positions, they push agains

t each other. Bonzo flies off with a velocity of +2.0 m/s, while Ender recoils with a velocity of -3.4 m/s. Determine the ratio mBonzo/mEnder of the masses of these two enemies.

Answer:

ratio of the masses of the two enemies = 1.7

Explanation:

Applying the law of conservation of momentum,

Momentum fo Bonzo = Momentum of Ender

mv = m'v'................. Equation 1

Where m = mass of Bonzo, v = velocity of Bonzo, m' = mass of Ender, v' = velocity of Ender

m/m' = v'/v............... Equation 2

Where m/m' = ratio of the masses of the two enemies

Given: v = 2.0 m/s, v' = 3.4 m/s

Substitute into equation 2

m/m' = 3.4/2

m/m' = 1.7

Hnece, ratio of the masses of the two enemies = 1.7

How does a fuse protect a toaster?
LUCKY_DIMON [66]
The correct option is (D). i.e.<span>When the current is too high, a metal strip in the fuse melts and opens the circuit.

Explanation: </span>The fuse contains a small piece of wire which has very less melting point. As there is huge current flow, the wire heats to the heavy current flow & melts & the circuit is broken.
Hence, it saves the device from the heavy current flow & the device is damage free. breaks the circuit if a fault in an appliance causes too much current flow.

A science student is riding on a flatcar of a train traveling along a straight horizontal track at a constant speed of 10.5 m/s.
lesantik [10]

Answer:

Height as seen by the professor = 38.2 m

Explanation:

Angle of throw = θ = 69°

Velocity of throw = v

X component of velocity = v₁ = v cos 69 = 0.3584 v m/s

Vertical component of the velocity = v₂ =  v sin 69 = 0.9336 v m/s

v₂ / v₁ = tan 69 = 2.605

v₂ = 2.605 v₁.

Professor sees as if the x component of velocity =0

v (as seen by professor) + v'  = 0

=> v  as seen by professor = -v' = -10.5 m/s

This shows that y component of the ball's velocity is 2.605 times its x component of velocity.

with respect to the professor, there is only y component of velocity.

v₂' =v₂ = 2.605 ( -10.5) = 27.4 m/s.

Height as seen by the professor = (27.4)² / 2(9.8) = 38.2 m

A potential energy function is given by U(x)=(3.00J)x+(1.00J/m^2)x^3. What is the force function F(x) (in newtons) that is assoc
snow_lady [41]

Answer:

F(x)=-3 N -(3N/m^2) x^2

Explanation:

The force is equal to the negative of the derivative of the potential energy function:

F=-\frac{dU}{dx}

In this problem, the potential energy function is

U(x)=3 x + 1 x^3

Therefore, the force function is:

F(x)=-\frac{dU}{dx}=-\frac{d}{dx}(3x+1x^3)=-3-3x^2

So, adding the units of measurement,

F(x)=-3 N -(3N/m^2) x^2

What makes gravity work
olganol [36]
Well we have two concepts of gravity now. In Newton's concept masses create forces between them. In Einstein's concept mass distorts time and space around it and makes masses move as if there are forces between them.
So whichever concept you prefer it's the presence of mass that creates gravity.

For each property listed, identify the type of element it describes. Very good electrical conductivity: Amphoteric, able to form
kow [346]

The elements that is very good in electrical conductivity are gold and copper: elements that is amphoteric are copper, zinc, tin, lead, aluminum and beryllium: elements that is gaseous at room temperature are hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine and chlorine: elements that is solid at room temperature are all metal except mercury and perhaps some unseen radioactive elements. Lastly, elements that is brittle are hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, sulfur and selenium
