What techniques do you think Shubin and his fellow researchers used to determine how deep they should dig to look for Tiktaalik?

Scientists used radiometric dating and other fossil evidence to look for the Tiktaalik fossils. They already had prior knowledge that the aquatic vertebrates first moved to land between 380 to 363 million years ago. They looked for sedimentary rock layers that match this age and started the search for the fossils from there.

Where does the sedimentary rock chalk form? from the precipitation of minerals in shallow marine environments by the lithificati
Katarina [22]

The correct answer is an accumulation of microorganisms in deep marine environments.

Chalk rock refers to a pure form of limestone produced in tropical and warm seas about 100 million years ago in the Cretaceous period. The microscopic marine algae known as coccoliths thrived in the ancient seas. Their shells were comprised of calcite. With the death of the algae, their bodies sunk to the floor of the sea and sediment of chalk got deposited.

Over many years layers of chalk sediment got deposited and resulted in compaction of loose sediment into solid chalk rock.

a cell is placed in a solution of 3% starch and 3% glucose. After several hours, glucose is detected outside of the cell, but st
Alex17521 [72]

Answer and Explanation:

The cell was placed in a hypertonic solution. Glucose is a monosaccharide while starch is a polysaccharide. The concentration on the outside is higher compared to that on the inside. The cells have cell membrane that is semi-permeable.

Movement of molecules is dependent on the concentation gradient. However, the size of molecules determine the diffusion rate. Small and light molecules diffuse faster than large and heavy molecules thus glucose diffused faster than starch.

The cell membrane being permeable suggested that it allows molecules of small sizes to pass but not large ones.
