The sum of two numbers is 139 and the difference is 53. Explain how to find the two numbers.
Airida [17]

Answer:

43 & 96

Step-by-step explanation:

x=one number

y=other number

x+y=139

x-y=53     x=y+53

substitute for x

y+53+y=139

reduce

2y+53-53=139-53

2y=86

2y/2=86/2

y=43

x=96

What is the slope of the line in this graph?
den301095 [7]

Answer:

The slope is 5/6

Step-by-step explanation:

To calculate the slope here, there are two ways.

Count the rise over run with the boxes

Or

Find Any 2 points and use y2-y1/x2-x1 to find slope

Both ways work.

For this graph Since it looks pretty basic, I‘ll use the rise over run technique

Now we start from the origin side that is where one point is and just rise vertically until I reach a point and when I do, just run that many steps.

So I reached till 5 and ran to 6 which is a  point on the coordinate graph

So to put it in slope form, it’s rise over run

Heres a easy way to remember it

lets say you wake up, you have to rise first and then run

You can’t run and then rise, that makes no sense

So here its rise 5 and run 6

so 5/6 is the slope

How do scientists know about the ordovician period
Bond [772]

Answer:

The Ordovician was named by the British geologist Charles Lapworth in 1879. He took the name from an ancient Celtic tribe, the Ordovices, renowned for its resistance to Roman domination. For decades, the epochs and series of the Ordovician each had a type location in Britain, where their characteristic faunas could be found, but in recent years, the stratigraphy of the Ordovician has been completely reworked. Graptolites, extinct planktonic organisms, have been and still are used to correlate Ordovician strata.
