because the passage is in third person it's a bit harder to tell whether or not William was affected by this comment. We do not get any insight of him taking offense to this or William having any kind of reaction to this, but I do believe he was unaffected by his math teachers comment.
I would describe Tom as a atheist. He is a wierd boy that might have poweres .i would have to know the book or where his comes from to give you more info
It is obvious the first question would be what is the text about,what does the author try to convey and how does he presents the facts to manage his goals.
