Answer:

these problems are always tough b/c they want you to translate normal thinking into math jargon  :D   soooo....

Step-by-step explanation:

they use the point slope formula... which looks like

y = y_{1} = m(x - x_{1})

where (x_{1} , y_{1} )  are the x , y coordinates of some point you're given.. sooo

they give us two points.. so we can put either one of those into the formula.. but we also have to find m.... or the slope ... to find m.. use the slope equation of

m = ( y_{2} - y_{1} ) / ( x_{2} - x_{1} )

call either point  P1  and P2 ... i'll pick the top point as P1  and bottom as P2

then

m = ( -3 -1 ) / ( 1 - 3 )

m = -4 / -2

m = 2     ( yay  :) )

now use either point and plug it into the point slope formula, i'll use P1

y - 1 = 2(x-3)   ( this is the answer they are looking for )

X>0, y>0, 2x+3y=8, smallest value of xy? pls help me
torisob [31]

Answer:

where there is x in the equation we put 0

For y

=2(0)+3y=8

=0+3y=8 Group likely terms

=3y=8-0

=3y=8 Divide both sides by 3

=3y/3=8/3

Therefore y=2.6

For x

=2x+3y=8

=2x+3(0)=8

=2x+0=8 Group likely terms

=2x=8-0

=2x=8 Divide both sides by 2

=2x/2=8/2

Therefore x=4

The smallest numbers for x and y is 4 and 2.6 respectively

Can someone please help me?
Lena [83]

Hey there!

We can solve systems two ways - substitution and elimination. It seems in this case that elimination is going to be easier.

Let's begin by multiplying the top equation by 3, and the bottom equation by 4:

3(5x - 4y = -24)

15x - 12y = -72

4(4x + 3y = 18)

16x + 12y = 72

Next, we'll add the two equations together to get rid of, or eliminate, the y variable and solve for the x variable:

(15x - 12y = -72) + (16x + 12y = 72)

31x = 0

x = 0

Next, we'll plug the value of the x variable into the top equation and solve for the y variable:

5(0) - 4y = -24

-4y = -24

y = 6

Therefore, x = 0 and y = 6.

Hope this helps!! :)
