We need political parties because they are good in reflecting fundamental divisions in the society about different political parties.
Northern states saw slavery as cruel and agianst humanity. Southern states saw slavery as the economic backbone of their economy and felt it was necessary.
The Spanish would most likely try to recruit allies to defeat the armies of the Aztecs since the Spanish were bent on defeating the Aztecs and conquering Mexico. This would have been a strategy to create hegemony over this part of the New World.
