Communication satellites are placed in a geosynchronous orbit, i.e., in a circular orbit such that they complete one full revolu

tion about the earth in one sidereal day (23.934 h), and thus appear stationary with respect to the ground. Determine the altitude of these satellites above the surface of the earth in both SI and U.S. customary units.

Answer:

Explanation:

Let the radius of orbit of geostationary satellite be R .

Time period of satellite = 2πR / V₀ where V₀ is orbital velocity

T = 2πR / √gR

T= 2πR / √(GM / R )

T = 2πR¹°⁵ / √GM

R¹°⁵ = T x √GM  / 2π

T = 23.934 h = 23.934 x 60 x 60 s = 86126.4 s

R¹°⁵ = 86126.4 x √ ( 6.67 x 10⁻¹¹ x 5.972 x 10²⁴ )  / 2π

= 86126.4 x √ ( 398.33 x 10¹²  )  / 2π

= 86126.4 x 19.95 x 10⁶  / 2π

= 273.428 x 10⁹

R = 42.92 x 10⁶ m

= 42920 km

Radius of orbit = 42920 km

radius of earth = 6370 km

Altitude of satellite = 42920 - 6370 = 36550 km .

In US customary unit = 36550 x 10³ /.9144 yards

= 36550 x 10³ /(.9144 x 1760 ) miles

= 22771 miles .

Two campers dock a canoe. One camper has a mass of 100.0 kg and moves forward at 3.0 m/s as he leaves the canoe to step onto the
Solnce55 [7]

Answer:

The combined speed of camper and canoe is 1.71 m/s.

Explanation:

Given that,

Mass of camper 1, m = 100 kg

Speed of camper 1, v = 3 m/s

The combined mass of another camper and canoe is, M = 175 kg

We need to find the combined speed of camper and canoe. According to the conservation of linear momentum, the momentum of first camper is equal to linear momentum of the canoe and the second camper.

mv=MV\\\\V=\dfrac{mv}{M}\\\\V=\dfrac{100\times 3}{175}\\\\V=1.71\ m/s

So, the combined speed of camper and canoe is 1.71 m/s.

What pressure will 14. 0 g of co exert in a 3. 5 l container at 75°c?
Ronch [10]

The pressure will 14. 0 g of co exert in a 3. 5 l container at 75°c is 4.1atm.

Therefore, option A is correct option.

Given,

Mass m = 14g

Volume= 3.5L

Temperature T= 75+273 = 348 K

Molar mass of CO = 28g/mol

Universal gas constant R= 0.082057L

Number of moles in 14 g of CO is

n= mass/ molar mass

= 14/28

= 0.5 mol

As we know that

PV= nRT

P × 3.5 = 0.5 × 0.082057 × 348

P × 3.5 = 14.277

P = 14.277/3.5

P = 4.0794 atm

P = 4.1 atm.

Thus we concluded that the pressure will 14. 0 g of co exert in a 3. 5 l container at 75°c is 4.1atm.
