The brain represents 2% of the total body weight for a human. But it uses 20% of the total oxygen and calories absorbed by the body (so ten times more than its weight ratio) it proves that it is an important organ that need a lot of energy.

The brain is the seat of higher functions (cognitive functions, senses, nervous responses) and vegetative functions. It is, therefore, an essential organ that regulates all vital functions. Like a central unit in a desk computer, the brain receives information from the entire human body via afferent nerves, integrates and analyzes them, and responds by emitting new signals that descend to the parts of the body concerned by the efferent nerves.

2. What procedure did you use to complete the lab? Outline the steps of the procedure in full sentences. Virtual Lab: Water Eros
Anettt [7]

The procedures that can be used to perform water erosion laboratory practicals are:

  • The use of detachment
  • Transportation
  • Deposition.

<h3>What is Water Erosion?</h3>

This refers to the biological process where rock particles are broken down into smaller particles and how they are removed by water.

Hence, we can see that in a laboratory experiment, one would need different apparatus such as:

  • Pitchers
  • Bottles
  • Soil
  • Water, etc.

This would be used to test the loss of water as it is put into the soil from the set of bottles to see how much the water is retained.

Neural control of gfr is mediated by ________ that innervate ________ receptors on vascular smooth muscle causing ________
storchak [24]

Neural control of GFR is mediated by Sympathetic neurons that innervate alpha receptors on vascular smooth muscle causing Vasoconstriction.

<h3>How is GFR regulated?</h3>
  • The sympathetic division of the nervous system regulates the GFR or Glomerular Filtration Rate.
  • GFR is the sum total of filtration rates of all the working nephrons in the kidney.
  • Sympathetic division comes into action when the mean arterial pressure is very low (below 80mmHg).
  • In response to low blood pressure, the medulla releases norepinephrine through sympathetic nerves.
  • Norepinephrine leads to activation of alpha receptors on arteries which cause vasoconstriction.
  • Alpha receptors are more abundant on afferent arterioles.
  • This leads to vasoconstriction (narrowing) of arteries supplying to the glomerulus.
  • This decreases blood flow to glomerulus, leading to decrease in GFR.

White blood cells cannot function properly and their reduced production can lead to fever and frequent infections. This is because the function of white blood cells in fighting germs has been disrupted.

Other signs and symptoms:

- Weak and tired.

- Lack of appetite and weight loss.

- Swelling and bleeding gums.

- Headache.

- Abdominal swelling is caused by enlargement of the liver and lymph.

- Bone pain, can cause weakness.

Joint pain.

- The glands are swollen. If the glands in the neck and chest are swollen, it can cause blood flow to be blocked. This causes the face to swell, difficulty breathing and snoring.

In your own words, explain the role of scientific investigation in the development of the Theory of Adaptation.
Pavel [41]
The scientific investigation is the systematic approach of the scientists to answer the questions about the world. It is applied almost all of the theories including the Theory of Natural Selection. Darwin's theory of evolution is a result of scientific investigation. In this theory, they investigate by observing the distribution of species.
