You have to use the Pithagorean Theorem because the ladder, the barn and the earth forms triangle. Than the wall of the barn and the earth makes a 90° angle. So the ladder is the hypotenuses and the earth and the barn wall are the catetes so you only have to do 12^2= 3^2 + x^2. x is how high on the barn the ladder reach. That's all. I hope I helped.

The barn, the ground, and the ladder form a right triangle. If we represent the height on the barn by y, then the Pythagorean theorem tells us

... hypotenuse² = (side1)² + (side2)²

... (12 ft)² = (3 ft)² + y² . . . . . . . . . . . . fill in given information

... 144 ft² - 9 ft² = y² = 135 ft² . . . . . .subtract (3 ft)²

... y = 3√15 ft ≈ 11.6 ft . . . . . . . . . . . take the square root

The ladder reaches 11.6 feet high on the barn.

Dennis_Churaev [7]

Answer:

y = \frac{3}{4}x - 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Equation of a line is given as y = mx + b

Where,

m = slope of the line = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}

b = y-intercept, which is the value at the point where the line intercepts the y-axis. At this point, x = 0.

Let's find m and b to derive the equation for the line.

m = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}

Use the coordinate pair of any two points on the line. Let's use the following,

(0, -2) = (x_1, y_1) => on the line, when x = 0, y = -2

(4, 1) = (x_2, y_2) => on the line, when x = 4, y = 1

Plug in the values and solve for m

m = \frac{1 - (-2)}{4 - 0}

m = \frac{1 + 2}{4}

m = \frac{3}{4}

b = -2 (the line intercepts the y-axis at this point)

Our equation would be =>

y = mx + b

y = \frac{3}{4}x + (-2)

y = \frac{3}{4}x - 2

CaHeK987 [17]

Given:

Carol has 88cm of string and cuts it in the ratio 5 : 6.

To find:

How much longer is the longest piece compared to the shortest piece.

Solution:

Let the lengths of two pieces of string are 5x and 6x. Then,

5x+6x=88

11x=88

x=\dfrac{88}{11}

x=8

Now, the lengths of pieces are:

5x=5(8)

5x=40

And,

6x=6(8)

6x=48

The difference between the longer piece and shorter piece is:

48-40=8

Therefore, the longer piece is 8 m longer than the shorter piece.

In order from greatest to least, the ribbons go

7/8 (Green)
3/4 (Pink)
1/3 (Blue)

This because 7 out of 8 is a larger number than 3 out of 4, and 3 out of 4 is greater than 1 out of 3.

The length of a rectangle is 5 in more than double the width
Mekhanik [1.2K]

Answer:

length of a rectangle is 5 more than twice the length. I believe

you mean the length of a rectangle is 5 more than twice the

width.

From the information given we can make two equations,

thus forming a system to solve. We know the perimeter

of a rectangle is 2(length + width) and area = length*width.

length of a rectangle is 5 more then twice the width:

L = 2w + 5

The perimeter is 130:

2(L+w) = 130

L+w = 65

Since we know L=2w+5 we can substitute that into 2nd equation

to solve for w

2w + 5 + w = 65

3w = 60

w = 20

L = 2w+5 = 45

The area is length*width = 20(45) = 900 square units
