First denominator -- x
<span>first numerator ---- x-2 </span>

<span>new denominator -- x+3 </span>
<span>new numerator ---- x+1 </span>

<span>(x-2)/x + 3/20 = (x+1)/(x+3) </span>
<span>times 20x(x+3) , the LCD </span>
<span>20(x+3)(x+1) + 3x(x+3) = 20x(x+1) </span>
<span>expanding and simplifying gave me </span>
<span>x^2 + 3x - 40 = 0 </span>
<span>(x-5)(x+8) = 0 </span>
<span>x = 5 or x=-8 </span>

<span>if x=5, the original fraction was 3/5 </span>
<span>if x=-8 the original fraction was -10/-8 or 5/4 </span>

<span>check for 3/5 , new fraction would be 6/8 or 3/4 </span>
<span>3/5 + 3/20 = 12/20 + 3/20 = 15/20 = 3/4 </span>

<span>but for 5/4, new fraction would be 8/7 </span>
<span>5/4 + 3/20 = 28/20 = 7/5 ≠ 8/7 </span>
<span>BUT, if we take the unsimplified fraction -10/-8 , new fraction would be -7/-5 = 7/5 </span>

<span>So the original fraction would be 3/5 for sure, but </span>
<span>also the unsimplified fraction -10/-8</span>

Find the equation of a parabola that has a vertex of (-3,2) and contains the point (4,7)
MatroZZZ [7]

\bf ~~~~~~\textit{vertical parabola vertex form} \\\\ y=a(x- h)^2+ k\qquad \begin{cases} \stackrel{vertex}{(h,k)}\\\\ \stackrel{"a"~is~negative}{op ens~\cap}\qquad \stackrel{"a"~is~positive}{op ens~\cup} \end{cases} \\\\[-0.35em] ~\dotfill

\bf \stackrel{vertex}{(-3~~,~~2)}~~ \begin{cases} h = -3\\ k = 2 \end{cases}\implies y=a[x-(-3)]^2+2\implies y =a(x+3)^2+2 \\\\\\ \stackrel{\textit{passes through}}{(4~~,~~7)}~~ \begin{cases} x = 4\\ y = 7 \end{cases}\implies 7 = a(4+3)^2+2\implies 7 = 49a+2 \\\\\\ 5=49a\implies \cfrac{5}{49}=a~\hfill \boxed{y = \cfrac{5}{49}(x+3)^2+2}

Solve for b.<br> 3-2(b-2)=2-7b3−2(b−2)=2−7b
lyudmila [28]

Step-by-step explanation:

3 - 2(b - 2) = 2 - 7b

To solve this first distribute -2 to (b - 2)

3 + (-2b + (-2) x -2) = 2 - 7b

when we simplify this it becomes:

3 + (-2b + 4) = 2 - 7b

We take (-2b + 4) out of the parenthesis:

3 - 2b + 4 = 2 - 7b

Now simplify again.

7 - 2b = 2 - 7b

Now send all the b's to one side and constants on the other.

7 - 2 = -7b +2b

5 = 5b

b = 1

If a person bikes 6 miles in 15 minutes, how far can she bike in 1.5 hours?
Natalka [10]

Answer:

36\:miles

Step-by-step explanation:

There is <em>one-and-a-half</em> <em>hour</em> in <em>ninety</em><em> </em><em>minutes</em>,<em> </em>so multiply 6 by 15 to get 90, then whatever is done to the bottom is also done to the top, so you <em>square</em> 6 to get 36.

I am joyous to assist you anytime.
