The manager of a warehouse would like to know how many errors are made when a product’s serial number is read by a bar-code read

er. Six samples are collected of the number of scanning errors: 36, 14, 21, 39, 11, and 2 errors, per 1,000 scans each. What is the mean and standard deviation for these six samples?

Answer:

Mean=20.5

standard deviation=13.28

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given six samples i.e.

36, 14, 21, 39, 11, and 2

Mean is the average of all the samples

Mean= sum of all samples/no. of samples

Mean=(36+14+21+39+11+2)/6

Mean=20.5

Standard deviation is the positive square root of variance where

variance= sum of square of samples/number of samples-(mean)²

variance=(36²+14²+21²+39²+11²+2²)/6-(20.5)²

            = 596.5-420.25

            =   176.25

standard deviation= √(176.25)

standard deviation= 13.28

A company has 2 machines that manufacture widgets. An older machine manufactures 25% defective widgets, while the new machine ma
Bingel [31]

Answer:

73.90%

Step-by-step explanation:

Let Event D=Defective,  D' = Non Defective

Let Event N=New Machine, N' = Old Machine

From the given information:

P(D|N')=0.25\\P(D|N)=0.09\\P(N)=0.7\\P(N')=0.3

We are required to calculate the probability that a widget was manufactured by the new machine given that it is non defective.

i.e. P(N|D')

P(D'|N')=1-P(D|N')=1-0.25=0.75\\P(D'|N)=1-P(D|N)=1-0.09=0.91

Using Baye's Law of conditional Probability

P(N|D')=\dfrac{P(D'|N)P(N)}{P(D'|N)P(N)+P(D'|N')P(N')} \\=\dfrac{0.91*0.7}{0.91*0.7+0.75*0.3}\\ =0.73897\\\approx 0.7390

Therefore given that a selected widget is non-defective, the probability that it was manufactured by the new machine is 73.9%.

Two sides of a rectangle are 10 and 6cm each. Calculate the area of a square with the same perimeter as that of the rectangle
KengaRu [80]

Answer: 64 cm ²

Step-by-step explanation:

The perimeter of this rectangle will be:

= 2 * Length + 2 * Width

= 2 * 10 + 2 * 6

= 20 + 12

= 32 cm

The square has the same perimeter. Squares have 4 equal sides so each side of the square must be:

= 32 / 4

= 8 cm

Area = Length * Width

= 8 * 8

= 64 cm ²
