find two points on a line and subtract the y values over the x values.

$\frac{y_{1}- y_{2} }{x_{1} - x_{2}}$

here's an example. let's use the points (2, 4) and (4, 8)

$\frac{8-4}{4-2}$

simplify.

$\frac{4}{2} = \frac{2}{1} = 2$

so, the slope for this line would be 2.
