The Ostwald process is used commercially to produce nitric acid, which is, in turn, used in many modern chemical processes. In t

he first step of the Ostwald process, ammonia is reacted with oxygen gas to produce nitric oxide and water. What is the maximum mass of H2O that can be produced by combining 75.9 g of each reactant? 4NH3(g)+5O2(g)⟶4NO(g)+6H2O(g)

Answer:

51.1 g of H2O

Explanation:

The equation of the reaction is;

4NH3(g)+5O2(g)⟶4NO(g)+6H2O(g)

We decide on the limiting reactant;

Number of moles of NH3 = 75.9 g/17 g/mol = 4.46 moles

If 4 moles of NH3 produced 6 moles of H2O

4.46 moles of NH3 will produce 4.46 * 6/4 = 6.69 moles of H2O

For O2

Number of moles of O2 = 75.9 g/32g/mol = 2.37 moles

If 5 moles of O2 produced 6 moles of H2O

2.37 moles of O2 will produce 2.37 * 6/5 = 2.84 moles of H2O

Hence O2 is the limiting reactant

Mass of water produced = 2.84 moles of H2O * 18 g/mol = 51.1 g of H2O

A wave has 9.2 x 10-22 ) of energy. What is its wavelength?
blagie [28]

Answer:

\lambda=2.2x10^{-4}m

Explanation:

Hello!

In this case, since the relationship between energy and wavelength is defined via the speed of light and the Planck's constant as shown below:

e=\frac{c*h}{\lambda}

Since c stands for the speed of light and h for the so-called Planck's constant, we can compute the wavelength as follows:

\lambda=\frac{c*h}{e}=\frac{3.0x10^8m/s*6.626x10^{-34}J*s}{9.2x10^{-22}J}\\\\\lambda=2.2x10^{-4}m

Best regards!

An aqueous solution of 1.29 M ethanol, CH3CH2OH, has a density of 0.988 g/mL. The percent by mass of CH3CH2OH in the solution is
anzhelika [568]

Answer:

6%

Explanation:

Hello, for this case, we assume that the volume of the solution is 1L, thus, the mass is given by using the density as follows:

m_{solution}=1L*\frac{1000 mL}{1L}*\frac{0.988g}{1mL} =988g

Now, the mass of the ethanol:

m_{C_2H_5OH}=(1.29molC_2H_5OH/L*1L)*\frac{46gC_2H_5OH}{1molC_2H_5OH} \\m_{C_2H_5OH}=59.34g

Finally, the by mass percent is:

m/m=\frac{59.34g}{988g}*100\\%

%m=6%

Best regards.

If a mixture looks smooth and the same throughout it is probably what
gulaghasi [49]
Answer:
             <span>If a mixture looks smooth and the same throughout it is probably <u>Homogeneous</u>.

Explanation:
                   Mixture is the combination of different compounds which are unreactive to each other.

Mixture are classified as ...

Solutions; in which the mixed compounds are thoroughly mixed and cannot be distinguished from each other and are said to be homogeneous. In solutions the size of solute is very small (i.e. Less than 1 nm).

Colloids; in which the solute is homogeneous visually but heterogeneous microscopically. The size of particles in this case is between 1 nm to 1 </span>μm.

Suspensions; in which the mixture is heterogeneous, the particle size is greater than 1 μm and settles down (precipitation) under the influence of gravity.

Name the four elements on the Periodic Table that are considered METALLOIDS?
Nimfa-mama [501]

Answer:

boron (B), silicon (Si), germanium (Ge), arsenic (As), antimony (Sb), tellurium (Te), polonium (Po) and astatine (At)

Explanation:

metalloids are elements that are in between the metals and nonmetals. they are in between because they have properties of both metals and nonmetals.

you can search "metalloids on the periodic table" and go to images to see what i mean :)
