Total price equals 4 hoodies times (original price minus $5).

x= original hoodie price

$120= 4(x-5)
Use distributive property to multiply
120=(4*x) - (4*5)
120= 4x - 20
Add 20 to both sides
140=4x
Divide both sides by 4
$35= x

Original hoodie price was $35.

Hope this helps! :)

the cafeteria staff made sandwich each sandwich had either rye or white bread either ham or turkey and either cheese or no chees
nata0808 [166]

The complete question is

"The cafeteria staff made sandwiches. Each sandwich had either rye or white bread, either ham or turkey, and either cheese or no cheese. The staff made an equal number of each type of sandwich.

The sandwiches were placed on a tray. Without looking, Mary will choose a sandwich.

What are the chances that Mary will get a sandwich with cheese?"

The chances of Mary getting a sandwich with cheese is 1/2.

How to calculate the number of different ways?

The number of different sandwiches is calculated by multiplying all of the possibilities for each material being used.

rye or white bread: 2 options

ham or turkey: 2 options

cheese or no cheese: 2 options

So the number of different sandwiches = 2*2*2 = 8.

4 have cheese and 4 have no cheese, as the staff made an equal number of each type of sandwich.

So, The chances of Mary getting a sandwich with cheese is 4/8 = 1/2.

If x+1 and x-1 are the factors of the polynomial ax^3 + x^2 - 2x +b,find the values of a and b
Nadusha1986 [10]

The polynomial remainder theorem says that dividing a polynomial p(x) by x-c leaves a remainder of p(c)=0 if x-c is a factor of p(x). In this case, check c=-1 and c=1.

a(-1)^3+(-1)^2-2(-1)+b=-a+b+3=0

a(1)^3+(1)^2-2(1)+b=a+b-1=0

From the first equation,

-a+b+3=0\implies a=b+3

and substituting into the second gives

(b+3)+b-1=0\implies2b+2=0\implies b=-1\implies a=2
