Which of the following is the result of completing the square for x2 + 8x - 6 ?
melamori03 [73]
STEP 1- since 6 doesn't contain the variable to solve for move it to the right side of the equation by subtracting 6 from both sides
X^2-8X=-6
STEP 2- create a trinomial square on the left side of the equation find the value that is equal to the square of half of b the coefficient of x
(b/2)^2 =(-4)^2
STEP 3- add the term to each side of the equation
x^2-8x+(-4)^2=-6=(-4)
STEP 4- simplify the equation
x^2-8x+16=10
STEP 5- factor the perfect trinomial square into (x-4)^2
(x-4)^2=10
STEP 6-solve the equation for x
x=4= square root of 10

I need help with this
Kruka [31]

Answer:

<h2>V = 235.5 in³</h2>

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula of a volume of a cylinder:

V=\pi r^2H

r - radius

H - height

From the pictue we have r = 5in and H = 3in. Substitute:

x=\pi(5^2)(3)=\pi(25)(3)=75\pi\ in^3

\pi\approx3.14

Therefore

x=(75)(3.14)=235.5\ in^3

The probability that a lab specimen contains high levels of contamination is 0.10. A group of 4 independent samples are checked.
galben [10]

Answer:

a) 0.6561

b) 0.2916

c) 0.3439

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following information:

Let us treat high level of contamination as our success.

p = P(High level of contamination) = P(success) = 0.10

n = 4

The, by binomial distribution:

P(X=x) = \binom{n}{x}.p^x.(1-p)^{n-x}\\\text{where x is the number of success}

a) P(No high level of contamination)

We put x = 0, in the formula.

P(X=0) = \binom{4}{0}.(0.10)^0.(1-0.10)^{4} =0.6561

Probability that no lab specimen contain high level of contamination is 0.6561

b) P(Exactly one high level of contamination)

We put x = 1, in the formula.

P(X=1) = \binom{4}{1}.(0.10)^1.(1-0.10)^{3} =0.2916

Probability that no lab specimen contain high level of contamination is 0.6561

c) P(At least one contains high level of contamination)

p(x \geq 1) = 1 - p( x = 0) = 1 - 0.6561 = 0.3439

Probability that at least 1 lab specimen contain high level of contamination is 0.3439
