Hilbert’s hotel has rooms numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, . . . – one room for each positive integer. Guests are sometimes asked to move

rooms, but never more than once a day. Guests are never asked to share a room with anyone else, and guests are never turned away. Guests often arrive to Hilbert’s hotel in one of his special buses. Each bus holds passengers numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, . . . – one passenger for each positive integer. 1. Our story opens with Hilbert’s hotel empty. A bus full of guests arrive at Hilbert’s hotel. (a) How can Hilbert assign people to rooms?

Answer:

<em>For every even numbered room an even numbered guest is assigned to it and for every odd numbered room an odd numbered guest is assigned to it </em>

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that the Hotel is empty and every passenger stands for each positive integer and each number of room represents positive numbers as well

Hilbert can assign people to rooms by using a plot of first come first serve

i.e.<em> For every even numbered room an even numbered guest is assigned to it and for every odd numbered room an odd numbered guest is assigned to it </em>

Reasoning Graph the set of ordered pairs (0, 2). (1.4), (2,6). (3.8). Determine whether the relationship is a linear function Ex
polet [3.4K]

Answer:

No, it does not. See below.

Step-by-step explanation:

Lets find out the linear equation that passes trough (-2, 0) and (0, -6).

We know every linear equation has the form: y = mx + b

Where m is the slope on the curve and b the independent term.

We know that, given 2 points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) we can find the slope m as:

m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

In our case lets replace (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) by (-2, 0) and (0, -6) (notice it could be done in the inverse sense where (-2, 0) is (x2,y2) and (0, -6) is (x1,y1) ). So, our slope is:

m = [-6 - 0] / [0 - (-2)]

m = -6/2 = -3

So, we have a downward linear function with slope -3, this is:

y =  -3x + b

Now, for finding b just replace any of the 2 points given in the equation. Lets replace (-2, 0):

0 = -3(-2) + b

0 = 6 + b

Subtracting 6 in both sides:

-6 = b

So, our independent term is -6 and the function is:

y = -3x - 6

Now lets see if this linear eqution passes trough (2,6). If it does, we can replace the values on the equation. Replacing x by 2:

y = -3(2) - 6 = = -6 - 6 = - 12

So, in our equation, we x is 2 y is -12, and not 6 as in the point (2,6). So, our equation does not passes trough (2,6)

A lifeguard fills a pool with water at a constant rate. After 1/2 hour, 1/3 of the pool is filled.
Romashka-Z-Leto [24]

Answer: 2/3 of an hour.

Step-by-step explanation: The constant rate of the lifeguard filling the pool is 1/3 of the pool every 1/2 hour.  If she fills it for an hour, she'll get 2/3 of the pool filled.  Therefore, it'll take the lifeguard 1 hour to fill the pool 2/3 of the way.

Hope this helps! :)
