It is well known that bullets and other missiles fired at Superman simply bounce off his chest. Suppose that a gangster sprays S

uperman's chest with 6.4 g bullets at the rate of 92 bullets/min, and the speed of each bullet is 400 m/s. Suppose too that the bullets rebound straight back with no change in speed. What is the magnitude of the average force on Superman's chest from the stream of bullets

Answer:

Magnitude of the average force = 7.85 N

Explanation:

Data given:

Mass of bullets, m = 6.4 g

Rate of bullets/min, r = 92 bullets/min

Speed of each bullet, v = 400 m/s

Change in momentum here, Δ B = Bf - Bi

where f is the final and i is the initial

Note that change in momentum = force X time

So, Δ B = m(vf - vi)

              = 2mv

             = 2 X 0.0064 kg X 400 m/s        (convert g to kg)

            = 5.12 kg.m/s (for one bullet)

        so for the 92 bullets = 92 X 5.12 kg.m/s

           = 471.04 kg.m/s

         The force = Δ B ÷ Δt

where t = time measured in 60 seconds

        =  471.04 kg.m/s ÷ 60 seconds

       = 7.85 N

melomori [17]

Answer:

please read the answer below

Explanation:

The angular momentum is given by

|\vec{L}|=|\vec{r}\ X \ \vec{p}|=m(rvsin\theta)

By taking into account the angles between the vectors r and v in each case we obtain:

a)

v=(2,0)

r=(0,1)

angle = 90°

L=(2.5kg)(1)(2\frac{m}{s})sin90\°=5.0kg\frac{m}{s}

b)

r=(0,-1)

angle = 90°

L=(2.5kg)(1)(2\frac{m}{s})sin90\°=5.0kg\frac{m}{s}

c)

r=(1,0)

angle = 0°

r and v are parallel

L = 0kgm/s

d)

r=(-1,0)

angle = 180°

r and v are parallel

L = 0kgm/s

e)

r=(1,1)

angle = 45°

L = (2.5kg)(2\frac{m}{s})(\sqrt{2})sin45\°=5kg\frac{m}{s}

f)

r=(-1,1)

angle = 45°

the same as e):

L = 5kgm/s

g)

r=(-1,-1)

angle = 135°

L=(2.5kg)(2\frac{m}{s})(\sqrt{2})sin135\°=5kg\frac{m}{s}

h)

r=(1,-1)

angle = 135°

the same as g):

L = 5kgm/s

hope this helps!!

We know, Potential Energy = m * g * h
Here, mass & gravity would be same, but their height will change so it will be:

ΔU = U₂ - U₁
ΔU = mgh₂ - mgh₁
ΔU = mg (h₂ - h₁)

Hope this helps!

A proud new Jaguar owner drives her car at a speed of 25 m/s into a corner. The coefficients of friction between the road and th
ehidna [41]

Answer:

ac = 3.92 m/s²

Explanation:

In this case the frictional force must balance the centripetal force for the car not to skid. Therefore,

Frictional Force = Centripetal Force

where,

Frictional Force = μ(Normal Force) = μ(weight) = μmg

Centripetal Force = (m)(ac)

Therefore,

μmg = (m)(ac)

ac = μg

where,

ac = magnitude of centripetal acceleration of car = ?

μ = coefficient of friction of tires (kinetic) = 0.4

g = 9.8 m/s²

Therefore,

ac = (0.4)(9.8 m/s²)

<u>ac = 3.92 m/s²</u>
