explain how the number of valence electrons in atoms relate to their bonding with other atoms to form molecules ?????
Westkost [7]

valence electrons are the number of electrons in the outer shell. there can only be 8 electrons in the outer shell. The number of valence electrons can be used to determine how many bonds are needed.

For example: H2O

O (oxygen) has 6 valence electrons
H (hydrogen) has 1 valence electron

O needs 2 more electrons to be stable
H needs 1 more electron to be stable

O forms one bond with two H atoms to form H2O.

How many grams of mercury would be contained in 15 compact fluorescent light bulbs?
zhenek [66]

Answer:

Grams of mercury= 0.06 g of Hg

Note: The question is incomplete. The complete question is as follows:

A compact fluorescent light bulb contains 4 mg of mercury. How many grams of mercury would be contained in 15 compact fluorescent light bulbs?

Explanation:

Since one fluorescent light bulb contains 4 mg of mercury,

15 such bulbs will contain 15 * 4 mg of mercury = 60 mg

1 mg = 0.001 g

Therefore, 60 mg = 0.001 g * 60 = 0.06 g of mercury.

Compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) are tubes containing mercury and noble gases. When electricity is passed through the bulb, electron-streams flow from a tungsten-coated coil. They collide with mercury atoms, exciting their electrons and creating flashes of ultraviolet light. A phosphor coating on the inside of the tube absorbs this UV light flashes and re-emits it as visible light. The amount of mercury in a fluorescent lamp varies from 3 to 46 mg, depending on lamp size and age.

At equilibrium the reactant and product concentrations are constant because a change in one direction is balanced by a change in
Anna [14]

Answer: a. The concentrations of the reactants and products have reached constant values

Explanation:

The reactions which do not go on completion and in which the reactant forms product and the products goes back to the reactants simultaneously are known as equilibrium reactions.  For a chemical equilibrium reaction, equilibrium state is achieved when the rate of forward reaction becomes equal to rate of the backward reaction.

Equilibrium state is the state when reactants and products are present but the concentrations does not change with time and are constant.

Equilibrium constant is defined as the ratio of concentration of products to the concentration of reactants each raised to the power their stoichiometric ratios. It is expressed as K_{eq}

K is the constant of a certain reaction when it is in equilibrium, while Q is the quotient of activities of products and reactants at any stage other than equilibrium of a reaction.

For a equilibrium reaction,

A\rightleftharpoons B

K_{eq}=\frac{[B]}{[A]}

Thus the correct answer is the concentrations of the reactants and products have reached constant values.
